If you're hungover, eat brunch here!. So I haven't been to Big City on a weekend night to play billiards or anything, but I have experienced their brunch, and... WOW. The brunch was delicious, and the portions were huge - I don't think I paid more than $10. As an extra BONUS, Big City offers a free mimosa or free bloody mary with every brunch you order; double the hangover cure! The staff was very friendly and the bloody mary was perfect. Definitely recommend this place for a good, fulfilling brunch w/ free alcohol!
Decent food but Sneaky Business. After 5 years in Boston, Big City has become a fairly regular destination...the food's decent, there's a lot of pool tables, and the beer selection's pretty good. Here's the problem...they steal your money and hope you don't find out. On multiple consecutive occasions, I checked my bank statement the day after dining there, to find an extra, SEPARATE charge, in addition to the legitimate bill that I paid. So far, they have charged me more money than I care to specify in extra BOGUS transactions. I'm not sure if they expect their patrons to be so drunk by the time they leave, that they won't remember what they spent, or if they are trying to cash in on the fact that a lot of college students who don't pay attention to managing their money yet tend to go there...if I want someone to rob me, I'll leave my wallet somewhere, no need to go to Big City for that.
Mmm Beer. Very impressive beer selection, both on tap and bottles. Easy location. Accomodating service. You don't have to be a pool cat to have a good time here, there are plenty of spots to just have a seat and hang out with your crew/date. The food is a little pricey for what it is, but worth checking out for the drinks.
Popular Allston hangout takes patrons back to the days when drinking and playing pool were part of everyone's life..
The Scene
Fashioned like a police station from the black-and-white-TV era, Big City's first floor houses the calmer, family-oriented restaurant, complete with a large color mural on one wall and an eight-foot Statue of Liberty. Upstairs, in addition to the bar, there are 20-plus championship-sized tables that spread into two ballrooms. There's even a private room with one pool table, leather couches, cocktail tables, and a TV.
The Draw
The main draw is an unbelievable draft beer selection--expect more than 75 varieties, with everything from cheap domestics to tasty local microbrews to exotic imports. Pizza lovers choose from white, green or red varieties (plain, pesto or tomato sauce) and then go with a veggie or meat selection like the New Haven Clams Casino, the Tostada or the Cheeseburger in Paradise. Other dishes include Bangkok Thai chicken sticks and Big Daddy's dry-rubbed ribs.
cheeseburger pizza addiction. I need to stop getting this but i really like it, i want to try some other ones. The food is better than you would ever expect.Lots of pool tables and fooseball interesting historic decor is cool and its a fun place to go. Not always alot of places to sit can be a problem and hit or miss service. Best place to play pool around .
big city. a good call for hanging out playing pool ,drinking good beer. big room and no cover entertainment in the downstairs area where the pizza kitchen is. great atmosphere and big enough to move around to different rooms.lots of stuff going on here worth checking out
BETTER THAN THE OTHERS. THIS PLACE IS THE COOLEST BILLIARD CLUB COMPARED TO THE OTHERS AROUND BOSTON GREAT TUNES ,BEERS,ATMOSPHERE AND PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE AND GO THERE.PIZZAS ARE SOOO GOOD YOU WONT BELIEVE THEY ARE IN A PLACE LIKE THIS.MY GIRLFREIND WENT FOR BRUNCH TWICE SAID SHE AND HER FRIENDS LOVE THE FREE MUFFIN BASKET.CHECK IT
Buyer Beware. Great drinks and beer...FOR SURE! Great fun at the pool tables too. BUT, don't eat here. Overpriced. $14 for a plate of jambalaya with chicken, sausage, and shrimp. Good thing shrimp is singular AND plural...there was only one on my plate and WAY too much okra. AND it wasn' t cooked with "a fiery sauce" as the menu stated. I've had wenches fiery than that sauce! But seriously, good place to kick back with some buds for a brew, but skip the menu...you might spew.
the best. cheeseburger and fry pizza is unbelievable must try,the shrimp pesto is fantastic too.the food is way more than youd expect from a place with 20 pool tables.the bartender raj turned me on to belgian beers on tap.first went to big city with a large x-mas party which was a blast with a insane food buffet set up in the pool room first class job and ive been a regular since, have always had a good time and bring friends who love it .
Unbelievable!. I go to Big City occasionally since I live nearby. Last weekend we just went there for something to eat. After the waitress eventually arrived we ordered our meals. She arrives back with a glass of wine that was a quarter full.....obviously the end of a bottle. When I asked her to take it back and fill it up, she proceeded to argue with me for a few minutes about how much wine should be in a glass of wine. Eventually she relented by saying she would ask the bartender. After 15 mins she arrives back to say that usually the glass is filled to near the top and that my next glass will be filled to the top. After further protests that I would like "a glass of wine" she took my glass and filled it up. What is this waitress on?
