The Scene
Fashioned like a police station from the black-and-white-TV era, Big City's first floor houses the calmer, family-oriented restaurant, complete with a large color mural on one wall and an eight-foot Statue of Liberty. Upstairs, in addition to the bar, there are 20-plus championship-sized tables that spread into two ballrooms. There's even a private room with one pool table, leather couches, cocktail tables, and a TV.
The Draw
The main draw is an unbelievable draft beer selection--expect more than 75 varieties, with everything from cheap domestics to tasty local microbrews to exotic imports. Pizza lovers choose from white, green or red varieties (plain, pesto or tomato sauce) and then go with a veggie or meat selection like the New Haven Clams Casino, the Tostada or the Cheeseburger in Paradise. Other dishes include Bangkok Thai chicken sticks and Big Daddy's dry-rubbed ribs.

After 5 years in Boston, Big City has become a fairly regular destination...the food's decent, there's a lot of pool tables, and the beer selection's pretty good. Here's the problem...they steal your money and hope you don't find out. On multiple consecutive occasions, I checked my bank statement the day after dining there, to find an extra, SEPARATE charge, in addition to the legitimate bill that I paid. So far, they have charged me more money than I care to specify in extra BOGUS transactions. I'm not sure if they expect their patrons to be so drunk by the time they leave, that they won't remember what they spent, or if they are trying to cash in on the fact that a lot of college students who don't pay attention to managing their money yet tend to go there...if I want someone to rob me, I'll leave my wallet somewhere, no need to go to Big City for that.

Very impressive beer selection, both on tap and bottles. Easy location. Accomodating service. You don't have to be a pool cat to have a good time here, there are plenty of spots to just have a seat and hang out with your crew/date. The food is a little pricey for what it is, but worth checking out for the drinks.
