Really Good Sushi in JP. I had a great time at my last visit. I sat at the bar and dined alone for dinner but struck up fantastic conversation with the woman next to me, who ended up being a very interesting person. Good food and great conversation comes to mind when I visit this place. Delicious salmon and veggie sushi.

Great Food. If your looking for good sushi and good Japanese food this is the place to go. After years of trying to find "proper" Japanese food we finally found it at JP Seafood. They also serve some terrific Korean dishes like Japchae & Gyoza( and you can have that as beef or vegetable!) The maki is always fresh and yummy!!! Have even ventured into sashimi which I must say is fresh and delectable here not chewy like some other places we've been. If your a vegetarian there are plenty of choices on the menu for you & if you love fish this is better than Legal's! The staff always serve you with a smile and get the food to you nice and hot. If your in JP you have to come here to eat!

clear your sinuses. Tonight we went to JP Seafood and FOR THE THIRD TIME IN A ROW ordered a SPICY TUNA HANDROLL where the spice was OFF THE CHARTS. NOT GOOD!!!! NOT GOOD!!! We were drooling and our mouths were ON FIRE for a good half hour. AND obviously we could not even finish it. We LOVE sushi. We love spicy hot food.....but this is unfair to customers and a bad order. DO NOT GET IT. And actually think twice about going to this restaurant. The service is awful and the ambiance is totally lacking.

Kick-ass Sushi. The Omakase here is the best!!!!!! Great friendly Sushi Chefs, and servers. I also love their grilled fish dinners and Bibimbops. A Must Try: Scallion Pancake! YUMMMMM.. It's too bad that I don't live nearby, I would come here everyday.

Have I become more discriminating, or have they just stopped trying?. Oh how I used to love this place!!!

But, geez....now that I'm a local and can't resist its convenience (location, location, location) I find that the food just isn't that great. In particular I'm referring to the maki/sushi....often the rice seems overly sour and always too firm (sitting too long is my best guess). In addition I've yet to order a "shrimp maki" where the shrimp feels fresh...always the tempura is chewy and cool (as opposed to hot and crunchy. In short, I think it would be great if J P Seafood had some local competition.....I'd love to love the place again!!!

Everyone knows your name + great food. If you are a regular here, they will get to know you quickly, know what you like and dislike, and bend over backwards for you (within reason!). The food is always good (the lunch box is a real treat); the bibimbop is the best I've had in the Boston area, and the scallion pancake is to die for. Keep an eye out for their maki specials (Godzilla and Shocking...awesome!). It can be a bit hectic during the summer, especially towards the end of the week, so patience (or going there prior to being murderously hungry) is advised. They are reasonably priced (haven't raised their prices in 5 years!) and a great spot for a low-key dinner. Definitely try the Mochi ice cream.

Jamaica Plain's favorite spot for sushi also serves Korean and Japanese entrees.. In Short
Since 1996, JP Seafood Cafe has kept the neighborhood's countless young professionals happy by slicing and dicing fresh sushi. Those adverse to the raw stuff can choose from steaming bowls of noodle soup, dishes of flaky tempura and Korean rice dishes. The relaxed setting, colorful fish tank and sufficient selection of Asian beverages add to the atmosphere. Bargain lunch specials are served until 2:30pm.

JP needs another Sushi restaurant!. As a JP resident I have seen the quality of this place decline over the years. Over time, the quality of the sushi has gone down and the prices have gone up. A lot of the sushi that I have gotten is overpriced and the portions and pieces of sushi are small. Some of the sushi tastes like it has been refrigerated and not fresh. Unfortunately, this is the only sushi place in JP and thus, unless you are willing to travel, this is the only place to get sushi. This is why there is usually a wait for a table during the weekends.

The place is small and a bit cramped, tables are right next to one another (with in arms reach). And the service is average.
