Awesome restaurant for anybody loves Indian food. Don't listen to the negative reviews...these people clearly don't like Indian food. As a humongous foodie, food writer, lover of Indian food and local resident of Jamaica Plain, this is the BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT around! Great complimentary Indian style "chips" with very hot sauce! Great for those who love spicy food too!
Won't Go Back. We went for the first time and it will be the last time. In addition to painfully slow service, the food was terrible (the rice was musty), a loud fight broke out between some of the waitstaff culminating in an almost fist fight and firing, and the owner was removing items from our terrible mid-meal to share with other patrons because there weren't enough apparently to go around. Too bad, I really wanted to like it but there were way too many strikes against it and our meal was ruined.
Take out is great too!.
I love Bukhara food, staff and atmosphere. I took my daughter there once and we ate, laughted (till we cried) and had a great time. I sometimes order out so that I can take my food home and pig out.
I've tried another Indian Cuisine elsewhere but NO WAY could it match up to Bukhara.
I went back to Bukhara today ordered out. The mango ice-cream is delightful.
Bukhara Bistro is GREAT. Recent transplant to Jamaica Plain and I just found the most darling indian bistro. Went with a few new friends on Wednesday evening and liked it so much I went back with my boyfriend last night. This food is soooooo good. I had curry on Wednesday and Tandorri chicken last night and OMG it was just the best!! It is such a lovely restaurant - so much better than most of the place I have been in this city and so reasonably priced. It was fun and lively. There was about a 15-20 minute wait Saturday evening but my bad I didn't make a reservation, got seated right away on Wednesday. Oh and free parking - can't beat that. Safe to say I will be eating often at Bukhara. If you haven't been there already do try it. The food was yummy. I am going to try everything on the menu - will take many many trips as the menu is quite extensive. I asked for spicy and I got spicy, my boyfriend asked for mild and he got mild. We were very happy and he was very happy with the bill. Good food to keep you warm in this cold weather. Try it. I loved it and I hope you will too.
Bukhara is the jewel of Jamaica Plain!. I highly recommend Bukhara. The food here is great, always fresh, always perfectly prepared, the portions are so big that there is always enough left for lunch and/or dinner the next day - and the price is great. Where can you get three meals for under $20. Indian food was new to me in 1999 when Bukhara opened and the wait staff has always been very helpful in explaining the dishes. I love this place. It is worth making a special trip to JP. The restaurant decor is very charming. The free parking in the back is a plus. But the best thing about Bukhara is the food. I have never had a bad experience here. And I have never been told they were out of an item I wanted to order. I encourage everyone to try this restaurant. The food is so delicious! My personal favorite is the chicken tikka masala - this tomatoe sauce is the best I have ever had - my compliments to the Chef! Bukhara is the jewel of Jamaica Plain. Keep up the good work!
PATHETIC!!. The worst restraunt I have ever been to in US, Utterly disappointed with the service and the food. We went around 2 hours before closing time of restraunt. They didnt have anything we wanted and all we got from the menu was just 2-4 items. We ordered (considering the LONG DRIVE) .. SAVE YOURSELF A EVENING AND WHO WANTS TO WASTE A EVENING WITH THIS CRAPPY PLACE... I AM SURE ALL THE GOOD REVIEWS ARE DONE BY THOSE LOOSERS!!!
Go for the buffet. The buffet is the best deal around, so go during the afternoon on the weekend to take advantage of it. The food is superb, really delicious Indian food with the right balance of spices. If you go for a regular dinner here, you still get the high-quality food, but it is a little pricey for what you get. And the waiters are really, truly bad. They are not only disinterested and unresponsive, but seem to silently judge you. I'm serious, if you go you'll see what I'm talking about. Apart from the weird waiters, the food is fantastic. Just be sure to get take out or go to the buffet.
Poor Service, Mediocre Food. I went to Bukhara last night since I had heard some good things about the place, but was sorely disappointed. I have never had such rude waitstaff anywhere. It took forever for the waiter to take our order, and the drinks showed up after the appetizers were served. When we asked for our leftovers for a box, the waiter put the dish on top of the plates that he was clearing away. This to me is a definite no-no! As for the food, it's just mediocre. Nothing stood out. I definitely won't be going there or recommending this place to anyone!
Solid Indian spot. I like Bukhara, but I think it's a bit overrated in reality. The food is good no doubt, but you're paying for it and the ambience, in my view, isn't all that great. It's just ok. I know everything is expensive in Boston, but I find their prices a bit higher than other Indian resturants in the general area. Nevertheless, it's a solid solid option for Indian cuisine. But it's nothing that will blow-you-away.
One of Jamaica Plain's most popular ethnic restaurants delivers Indian fare with style..
In Short
Owned by the same folks who brought the Back Bay's Kashmir to culinary fame, Bukhara is similarly upscale. It occupies a beautiful gilded space that looks out on busy Centre Street in J.P.; there's dim lighting and soft, unobtrusive service. A large, well-priced menu, featuring nightly specials and a fantastic lunch buffet, actively attracts patrons from outside the J.P. city line. Bukhara features cuisine from both the northern and southern regions of India.
