The Background – Bunker Hill, the first battle of the Revolutionary War after Lexington and Concord, was an American defeat. The colonists retreated after running out of ammunition, but the redcoats lost 1,054 men, more than half their force, compared to the 441 colonists lost. It was a major boost to American morale and a political setback for the crown. – – Features – Bunker Hill took 17 years to build and was an engineering marvel of its time, but it will only take you an hour or so to check out. There's a notably dated multimedia presentation in the lonely Bunker…

  1. The only drawback is that the view at the top is not that great, and your legs if you aren't in shape will hurt for days.
  2. The attraction is free and you can enjoy ample parking around the monument.

Awesome

It's NOT that hard to climb to the top... the other reviews make it seem impossible. If you take your time and check out the windows on the way up, no problem. Definitely go ALL the way up. Really fun activity on a clear day.

Best enjoyed from the ground!

by cookrussell

The Bunker Hill monument is definitely one of my favorite spots in Boston but I highly recommend not climbing to the top. At nearly 300 stairs it's a long way up and causes a lot of pain on the legs for the following 3 to 4 days.

Bring your sneakers!

by djblitz

Bring your good running/walking shoes because you'll need them to climb to the top of this wonderful monument in Charlestown! The attraction is free and you can enjoy ample parking around the monument. It can get tiring and obviously it is not handicap accessible. The only drawback is that the view at the top is not that great, and your legs if you aren't in shape will hurt for days.

  • Pros: Free, Good parking
  • Cons: Bad views
