Editorial Review for Tavern on the Water – by Citysearch Staff
In Short
Located on a pier in the Charlestown Navy Yard, Tavern on the Water affords views of the U.S.S. Constitution and Boston skyline. The bar's comfy interior is no match for the 200-seat outdoor patio. In the bar, regulars watch the game while downing bottles of domestic beer and sturdy pub fare (Maine crab cakes, fried clams, grilled tenderloin tips). An upscale menu (miso-glazed salmon, Ahi tuna tartare) is served in the upstairs dining room.

Tavern Saturdays Nights It can not get better. I was there last night for dinner then Drinks! It was busy I had to wait in line for a a long while. and it was 7:30pm. I sat down on the bar outside. I had a Burger with Chips No fries but I got over it. My friend had a Lobster Roll I am going back to try it today. Drinks are good, Girl Girls Girls. I never saw so many good looking women having drinks. We had a great time left at 10pm there was still a line to get in. WARNING : This place is very busy, Hot days, on the water, if your in a hurry this is not for you. its a place to chill and have a good time. Staff are fun, bathroom outside are a bit well less then nice.. Outdoor pluming would be nice!!!! This is my new summer place....

I think the inmates took over the asylum at Tavern on the Water. Made a reservation for 830 outside...stood around at the hostess stand outside for 30 minutes until she sent us upstairs. Got upstairs to the host's stand for him to tell us that we were 30 min late and would have to wait. Why would he think this? Because the hostess never sent word up. We finally sat down for our 830 reservation at 920. Our waitress took our order, and then returned 20 min later to tell us that she had lost our ticket and needed to retake our order. My biggest problem with this situation? The fact that NOTHING was comped. Not the beers we drank while we waited for the staff to collectively pull their heads out of their rear ends. None of the entrees that our waitress had to resubmit. Nothing. I have never seen a group of "professionals" more comfortable with substandard performance in my life. The food is decent, but DEFINITELY not worth putting up with experiences like ours. There are too many seafood restaurants in the city - go somewhere else.
Pros: Food is decent
Cons: The overall experience
