Editorial Review for The Squealing Pig – by Jeanne Greeley

In Short
Tiny white lights strung from exposed iron beams cast a glow onto the well-worn pine tables and end-to-end bar at The Squealing Pig. A dozen taps flow with Irish and English brews, while steaming plates of satisfying bar food are churned out of an open kitchen. Typical of the menu is a traditional quesadilla that's stuffed with spicy chicken, or "Toastie" sandwiches filled with brie and cranberry, or blue cheese and bacon.

A group of us keeps going to bar because of it's proximity to work. They do have quite a selection of imported beers on tap and in bottles. The only two food items on the menu I can say I really like are their one dessert selection and fried calamari. Damn, those are good. I have tried the fries (even the fancy ones that proport using black truffle oil) and the buffalo wings, they were expensive and nothing to crow home about. Beer good, food poor. I always end up spending $20 or so here for 2 (fancy) beers and food.

Pros: beer menu, dessert, near green line T

Cons: finding a table if you're with a group, i don't think parking is possible, there was construction outside

while nearly every night except thursdays (and now one saturday a month) is pretty quiet at the pig, thursday nights are the most fun you could have in a month and a definite way to wind up the week. The pig is a great hide-away dive bar thats always warm and inviting. mike barret plays there every thursday to a full house of locals and college kids. everyone has a pint in their hands and sings along with mike at the top of their lungs. if you want to go out with a bunch of friends, laugh and have a great time youll love the pig. its not a place to go if you dont like politically incorrect jokes, since mike sings nothing but politically incorrect (though hilarious) folk songs. Theyve got a pretty good selection of beer too. the staff is always busy so you sometimes have to wait to order a drink but they always make up for by being completely against weak drinks. come early to grab a table since its a small place that becomes standing room only by 10:30 otherwise. its not a trendy bar or a bar you go to to pick up guys/chicks, its a place you go to to meet up with friends or unwind from a long week. there isnt a lot of dancing since there isnt much room for it, but it has been known to happen. i would say everyone should check it out, but no its not for the uptight, or the faint of heart. come ready to drink, be rowdy and have fun.

Pros: fun atmosphere and people

Cons: not big enough to fit the whole crowd comfortably
