My favorite neighborhood bar. Killer Irish food done right. (Although it sometimes takes forever to come out.) A genuine and friendly staff, usually all Irish themselves. It is the closest thing Cambridge has to an actual Irish neighborhood bar. Perfect end or beginning to an Inman Square pub crawl.
Late. Night.. Others have spoken adequately to the good grub, but an overlooked benefit of the Druid is that it is open late. Like Wendy's except with liquor and beer in still puritanical Boston. When all else is closed, but you're still going... Head on over and order a pint or a shot of Jameson
Guinness, chowder and hearty brown bread in a cozy bar room.. Guinness, chowder and hearty brown bread in a cozy bar room. The seafood chowder was made to order with four littlenecks, delectable scallops, cod and salmon in a creamy, flavorsome broth. The cream was accentuated with bits of salty ham and herbs. It was just right without being overly rich or thickened. At $10.00, it was worth every penny. After the Guinness, I tried their IPA, which was also a lovely pour. I just wish they would add Allagash to their draft selection. The bartenders were cheerful, attentive and authentically Irish. The two sculptures hanging from the ceiling added a bit of whimsy to the decor. Acoustics were well done for such a small space. There was a mixture of patrons, some young professionals, a couple of pierced art students, guys with tattoos, construction workers and a family having dinner in one of the corner nooks. The wooden bar stools were quite comfortable.
Intimate, all-purpose Irish pub brings a bit of style and comfort to Inman Square..
In Short
On weekend nights, a mostly local crowd of casually dressed 20- and 30-somethings fill the Druid to nod along thoughtfully to DJ-spun house/trance tunes. For a standard Irish pub, the setting is exceptionally handsome--it's housed in Cambridge's oldest wooden mercantile structure. Weekend mornings are dedicated to filling Irish breakfasts and English soccer on the big screen. Though lunch and dinner options include hearty shepherd's pie, many patrons stick to the dozen-plus beers served on tap.
Tiny place with big atmosphere. Finally visited the Druid on a Saturday night at 7pm after hearing its praise for the past few months. The place definitely pays homage to all things Druid with funky decor and interesting music. The menu is interesting with excellent thin crust pizza with a variety of toppings and a great specials menu that changes on a regular basis. We got a seat at the bar after only a few minutes of waiting I assume that is the exception; the place is small and popular. The crowd was mixed; a hip mom with baby, some college-age kids, a few professionals and biker-type dudes. The service at the bar was excellent, the two Irish sisters mixed tasty and sophisticated drinks without any pompous attitude. They have a choice selection of beers on tap like Guinness, Hoegaarden and Harpoon. I had a great time and would recommend this place to anyone.
Good time at the Druid!.
I walked by The Druid in Inman Square on Saturday night and saw it was reopened. It was closed for a month or so. I think there are new owners now. Great crowd in there! I noticed some nice improvements: new paint, cleaner than before, and brand new bathrooms. The staff were really cool and they played alot of cool music over the speakers. Check it out! It is well worth it.
