One of the city's best locations to experience Latino and Afro-Caribbean performance art..
The Skinny
The Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center is based in a friendly, unassuming neighborhood church in the heart of the South End. Despite its modest appearance, it draws some of the best-known Latin musical performers in New England.
Who's There
Salsa ensembles, flamenco dancers and orchestras from Hispanic, Latin American and Afro-Caribbean cultural traditions funk up the nights on a biweekly basis. And there's more than concerts. Events include community meetings, film festivals and frequent dances hosted by DJs from around the country.
It all takes place in the confines of the Villa Victoria church, which means that even when the acts are big, audiences are mainly lively, unpretentious South End locals.
Hours and prices vary depending upon the performance, so call for details.
