The Scene – Sunny, noisy and akin to a high school cafeteria, Garden of Eden's high-ceilinged dining room is as casually friendly as its cheery waitstaff. Small, copper-topped bistro tables for two are interspersed with hulking wooden tables that often end up being shared. Displayed in a glass case, deliciously tempting pastries, cakes and tarts lend color to the room. Local fans picking up takeout make for steady foot traffic in the dining room. – – The Food – Although Garden of Eden takes pride in purveying cheeses, pates and pastries, the menu offers an array of…
COLD, BAD FOOD. WORST SERVICE.

We went on a Sunday afternoon after hearing numerous recommendations. Upon arrival, our waitress informed us they were out of bacon, orange juice, lemonade, all bread besides wheat & white, salmon, etc-- all in a rude, informal manner. After ordering off a very limited menu, we waited about 45 minutes for eggs. ALL of our orders came COLD-- omelettes had none of the correct ingredients and their signature shoe-string french fries came out limp and freezing. Our rude waitress never checked back on us and honestly just seemed like she could care less-- perhaps because gratuity is automatically included in the bill. I have never experienced such horrible service along with disappointing food. COMPLETELY UNRECOMMENDED FOR BRUNCH AND ALL MEALS. Garden of Eden is not worth your time, especially when Aquitaine and Metropolis Cafe are so close by.
- Pros: outside seating, good menu options (when available)
- Cons: slow service, unfriendly staff, cold food, short food stock
Cute cafe, great local feel

My fiance and I stopped in for lunch on the 4th of July so it was pretty packed. We were seated after 10 mins indoors. The service is very friendly but not the quickest. I got the mac' n Cheese that they are known for after being told they were out of roast beef and all bread except for baguettes and raisin pecan rolls. Later on, the guy next to us was served a sandwich on foccacia bread so I was a bit peeved as I would have loved to have that. Anyway, the mac' n cheese wasn't mind blowing. It came out nice and hot and it was very cheesy but it wasn't worth $9 to me. My fiance enjoyed his sandwich which was pretty big. Probably will check out a few other places in the South End before going back.
- Pros: Location, outdoor seating, big sandwiches
- Cons: Prices, slow service
Great Food

The Garden has consisently been one of our favorite "fall back" spots in the South End. Whenever we go out without reservations (which is fairly often) and are too hungery to be waiting a long time (which is also often) we usually end up here. It's comfort style food and reasonable prices make it one of our favorites. It usually isn't much of a wait for a seat and the food has always been good. The wait staff can be good or bad - we've had very attentive servers and frenzied servers. Definitely a great weekend lunch spot - especially for taking out-of-town guests.
- Pros: Good prices, good food
- Cons: Parking, hit/miss service
