History
In the early 1920s, American theatergoers' growing hunger for excess was treated to an assault of hyperbolic architecture. One such hyperbole was the 3,700-seat Metropolitan Theatre, which opened its doors in Boston in 1924. The Metropolitan was dubbed "The Wonder Theater of the World" due to its spaciousness, vast domed ceiling, arched walls, marble statuary and ornate decor. In 1983, the theater was treated to a major renovation funded by computer magnate An Wang and reopened as the Wang Center for the Performing Arts (in early 2007, the venue's name changed to Citi Performing Arts Center).
The Space
While the Citi is a fine place to see dance and musical spectacles, it is not the best site for traditional theater. Major acoustical drop-off occurs the farther back you sit (not to mention the fact that the actors look like peanuts). Regardless, no space in the city affords such spectacle to accompany the one you're viewing onstage, be it a Boston Ballet premiere or Broadway-blockbuster fare.

The theater is beautiful and the show was wonderful, but the experience left a lot to be desired. First, I know it's unrelated, but parking was nightmare for a matinée show. We arrived a half hour early and it took us that long to get parked. How about a police detail? One of the ticket takers was extremely rude, and the line for drinks during intermission stretched the width of the building because they only had one person serving per floor. We paid a lot of money and, outside of the actual performance, was very disappointed with how the event was managed.

I recently attended an event at this theatre. It was an excellent experience for me....one I'll never forget. I had box seats which was a real plus. I had an excellent view and was able to come and go at my leisure without interrputing anybodys view. It was definitely a positive experience for me and I would go back to this theatre to see another show.
Pros: Excellent View, Customer Service, Great Venue
