Editorial Review for Beaucage Salon & Spa – by Alison Bulman

The Scene
Stepping into Beaucage is like happening upon a photo shoot. Women who look like supermodels simultaneously answer phones and take your name while urban beats pulse in the background. White transparent curtains sweep across giant front windows down to a shiny wood floor. Clients in black smocks recline on modern furniture, their hair in foils and paper while reading ritzy fashion magazines. Black-clad stylists fuss over women toting expensive Gucci bags, tattooed 20-somethings and foreign college-age girls.

The Services
A haircut here is a must, thanks to master stylists who take time for personal instruction in the art of blow-drying and styling (and who are very receptive to your personal preferences). The all-organic Eminence facial is a sensual delight and includes an extensive facial massage, administered in a calming white room with a classical music backdrop. Brazilian wax is a popular treatment as well.

I was in dire need of finding a new place to get my eyebrows waxed. The place that I had been going to too since I was 17 messed up my eyebrows one too many times, however the last time I went I broke out with a rash that cause some hyper pigmentation and I was not too pleased. That was it, I couldn't take it anymore and started out on a quest to find a new place to go to. I did a little research and Beaucage kept coming up, I visited their website and looked at the staff and read their bios and I came across Katherine. I was eager to see what she could do to help out my poor eyebrows! Katherine is an artist when it comes to waxing! My eyebrows never looked better! Katherine is a genius I love her she has such a great personality and she is sooooo funny! She never disappoints. The staff there is so friendly and every time I go they greet me by my name and everything. LOVE BEAUCAGE!!!!! Pros: Katherine, Staff Cons: There are none this is the best full service salon & spa on Newbury St.

Needing a cut to fix the disaster the last stylist made of my hair, I took a leap of faith and booked with Beaucage. I'd been exploring straightening techniques to try on my bird's nest and found that this salon did both Yuko and keratin treatments and had good reviews, so I thought "why not?" I called, made the appointment for that evening, and read more reviews. I started getting nervous at all the remarks about how stuck up the staff was (being that I am a recent grad on a tight budget) and began to regret booking the appointment (you do get charged for cancellations). I hate going into those places (think A&F) since I usually get snubbed by the snobby kids who work there, and I worried about that hour I'd have to spend feeling like I wasn't good enough to be a client. I have to say at that point I had serious doubts. When I arrived, I was surprised by how nice all the staff was. One immediately ran to make my tea, and before she even had time to bring my drink, Crystal came out to meet me (note: the salon was busy). She was awesome! She agreed that the last cut was horrible, came up with a plan to fix it, had the same vision for my cut, and answered all my questions about straightening (one of her coworkers even took time to talk to me about Yuko). And she was from the South too, so we had a lot to talk about (I usually dread that awkward small talk stuff). At the end, she dried my hair, and I was blown away at how great a job she did. I've NEVER had a stylist that could use a blowdryer on my hair and get better results than I do with a CHI. I'll admit, I looked so good after! I asked her if she wouldn't mind living in my bathroom and doing my hair everyday, but I don't think it's gonna work out. I guess I'll just settle for just going back every few months. I do have to qualify my praise by saying, I did not park, I don't color, and I haven't tried their other services, but what I had done met my high expectations. I will be back!
