The Eagle is a mature bar. It's for guys 21+ that know who they are and don't take themselves too seriously. The staff are real people and the place has a refreshingly egalitarian atmosphere. I suggested treating the staff as your hosts, not as your servants. They both participate in and facilitate conversation, and they will make it easier to meet people if you are shy. You'll meet men that are interested in chatting and making friends , people just participating in the conversation of the crowd and some shameless banter. Others come to hook up and make that very obvious. Jack, the man in charge, makes novel cocktails and usually has new ones with witty names that follow current events. There is one pool table open in the evenings and on weekday nights. Add your name to the chalk board in back to play the winner of the game before. Many here are good players and it's interesting to watch. Women must get in the bar line for the ladies room key. Many that come with gay friends have fun. There is an after work crowd that comes into the bar that is more mixed and often the news or a game show will be on the TV's. There is a usually a lull and then it picks up again starting around 9 or 10. At night there is a popular / dance music track. On Fridays and Saturdays they have a fabulous DJ that sits in a booth hidden above the entrance. For those that bar hop The Eagle is usually the final stop. They generally start to arrive around midnight and continue until close at just before 2am. Conversation continues for a short time out front on the sidewalk where some participate in a 'sidewalk sale'. The staff here often seems brash. They tick off people that are not relaxed or take themselves too seriously. If you have a well developed sense of humor about yourself and others and can deal with a place where the staff and patrons socialize on a equal level then the Boston Eagle is a great time and a good place to meet other guys.

Pros: relaxed atmosphere, gregarious crowd, strong drinks

Cons: seldomly updated interior, not the best restrooms in town

as a out of towner one of my first destinations was the eagle bar, despite the bars dodgy outsides and decor i felt reasonably comfortable for the evening,i started talking to some friendly guys and the first thing they mentioned was the rudeness of the staff and some of the customers, this was a true sign of worry for me that people were actually apologetic for the behaviour of the staff and crowd, and within two hours i agreed wholeheartedly. the bar staff are mostly made up of bitter and twisted individuals who are all over the age of 50 and harbour a real resentment against having to do any kind of work whatsoever and managed to make most of the customers feel completely uncomfortable all the time, yet they complain of having no custom when the reply to that question is obvious! the clientel is mixed ranging from friendly to not so friendly, but the strong majority still also being unpleasant and reasonably narrow minded.i.e picking on people for being liberal, democrat, republican or even picking on a persons attire and insulting them to there face in one case.this really goes to show the bitterness and brutallity of this depressing bar.if there is a good time to be had in a gay bar in boston, and you are person who is not bitter twisted resentfull and has more than 6 brain cells, i suggest you look elsewhere

Pros: good price for drinks SOME FRIENDLY PEOPLE!

Cons: horrible ugly depressing incredibly rude bar staff and customers!
