Editorial Review for New York Pizza – by Nancy Benson

The Scene
With only six booths and no public bathroom, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this place is predominately for takeout. The phone rings off the hook with orders, and there's a fair amount of foot traffic as well. The dining area looks well used. Place your order at the counter underneath the cardboard menus that look like they've been there forever. Service is fast and friendly.

The Food
For $2 a slice, this is the best buy in town and diners on the run take advantage of this deal. Too bad the pizza doesn't live up to its value. The sauce is tasteless, the dough tough to chew. A better option is a grinder made on fresh Italian bread; the steak and cheese is loaded with steak and slathered in just enough mayonnaise.

I guess most are not really going there for good pizza, they're going because it's an after-hours place after the bars close on the weekends. However, other than that, there's no excuse- the service is poor, the pizza rubbery, and the eating area is dirty. Plus, it's always packed with homeless people, addicts, and sleazy night-club goers. Stay away!

Pros: Convenient location, open late

Cons: Gross food, dirty dining area, flies, homeless people and drunks

NYP is the best place to go if it's 2AM and you just want a slice to eat. It's not the best, but it's definetely not the worst. The chicken parmigiana sub is great, the sauce is okay and the cheese is always melty and delicious. I've been here countless times. Kids from Emerson College (across the street) frequent the place after going to parties on weekends. Also people from the clubs down the street, so be wary of drunk customers. The place recently went under new ownership, so it was renovated with new menus, floors, etc. and looks cleaner. There's an ATM in there now too.

Pros: Best late-nite pizza

Cons: be wary of drunk customers
