The Scene
Open since 1927 and long considered the South End's premier breakfast spot, Charlie's has attracted countless celebrities with its monstrous omelettes and juicy burgers. You'll get a view of autographed photos (from LL Cool J to the mayor) and ancient "No Loitering" signs no matter where you sit. Scoring a place at the counter guarantees a view of the frenetic griddle scene. Grizzled chefs and waiters address their many regulars by name.
The Food
Epic breakfast dishes and greasy spoon lunch fare can be ordered any time. Gigantic three-egg omelettes come with excellent home fries and salad, though some patrons opt for French toast and pancakes. Lunchtime offers up one of the juiciest burgers in town, as well as countless sandwichs. Morning or afternoon, Charlie's acclaimed turkey hash is a customer favorite. Soups and salads are also popular.

Charlie's has a great old Boston flavor. You do feel like you are stepping back in time when you come in and sit down at the counter. The breakfasts are hearty and a decent value. At lunch the French fries are great. I've always found the burgers to be good, but nothing exceptional. You might be better off with a sandwich. Somethings I don't like about Charlie's is that it's hard to get a seat sometimes unless you're willing to sit with strangers, they don't take credit cards, and they all their sodas and juices come in cans and bottles, not from a fountain, so no free refills. Waitstaff is always top notch, however.
Pros: atmosphere
Cons: no credit cards, crowded, no refills

Let's put it this way.........this is the best breakfast in Boston, if not anywhere. The atmosphere is great, its like stepping back in time, they way things were (the way they should be). Great menu with all types of breakfast and lunch options. The service is great, the cooks and waitresses are all friendly and fast. Prices are respectable with the portions served. The Turkey Hash is Charlie's trademark, its awesome. If you are in Boston and looking for a great breakfast, this is the best spot in town.......PERIOD!
Pros: Best Breakfast, Great Service, Great Atmosphere
Cons: Closes at 2 p.m., Closed on Sundays
