“The service was really slow, so the free parking didn't really matter.”
“She took the time to walk us through the menu, reccomended the right beer and steered us towards a great dessert.”
“It is a great place to meet-up with friends for a drink, to bring the family (they've got a great little children's menu) or to go before a show at one of teh nearby theaters.”

Good for beer - food is okay.. I have been here a couple of times. The beer and beer selection is quite good. The food was only okay and doesn't compare with what I have had in Germany or Austria. I will go back for the beer though.…
Disappointing. I was so excited to try this place. I purchased a Groupon for Jacob Wirth on the strength of their reputation for wiener schnitzel. But it was sub-par, with a tangy lemon cream sauce that didn't belong on it. Should have asked for it on the side, but I scraped enough off, and there were some naked edges where I could taste just the schnitzel, and it just didn't do it for me. Likewise for the spaetzle. I've had better luck with Knorr's from a package. Good caesar salad, though, with plenty of anchovies (I asked for extra). Starter "nibbler" with sausage and sauerkraut was totally unremarkable. In short, not a place I'm eager to try again.…
beer hall.
OK, I live in NY, work takes me to boston, I like Jacob Wirths. I was there on halloween, the place was empty at 9 pm. The food was good, maybe authentic germans think otherwise.
We ordered a whole bunch of food and asked the waiter to throw it in the middle of the table so we could fight over it.
And indeed we did. Forks colliding trying to scoop up red cabbage and sausage. Jaeger sauce so yummy. Potato pancakes delish! Beer was nice and cold.
I have been in there in the dead of winter, snow on the streets and the place was packed, windows fogged, pitchers of beer, the roar of the crowd, like I said, I like it!!
Oh, and thanks for the halloween candy and packaging up a pumpkin cheesecake to go since we were stuffed!!!…
A good lunch spot.
We eat at Jacob Wirth for lunch usually once a week. It is close to where we are and we like some items on the menu. The daily lunch special is with checking out and it includes a cup of soup,
sandwich, dessert, and soft drink for $10. The sweet potato fries are excellent, just make sure they are hot or send them back. The complimentary cornbread would be great if it was warmed, but it isn't. The servers are nice and if you are in a hurry they will do their best to accomodate you.
Items that I have eaten and liked are the warm turkey sandwich, chili, sweet potato fries, and cookies. The $5 burger special is pretty sparse, so if you just want a burger McDonalds is down the street.
While being billed as a German restaurant and beer hall it is mostly a bar that has some German food offerings. It was not like the restaurants/beer halls I visited in Germany.
If you are a fan of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz you will want to watch the movie Knight and Day when it is released in 2010. Visit JW after watching the movie to see if you recognize the scenes shot there in 2009.
It's a neighborhood joint that I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but if you around the area I would stop by for a bite.…
Management/wait staff poor.
I've been to Jake's many times. My last visit prompted me to write this negative review. I visited on Valentine's Day and was given the "Valentine's Day" special menu. The menu noted a soup,
appetizer, entree, and desert with a beer sampler with every course, for the "all inclusive price" of $49 per couple. However, once we had ordered, there was no soup course, and while the menu indicated that there was a beer sampler for each person with each course, we only got one beer with the appetizer course. When we inquired with the manager, he indicated that the soup and beer don’t come with the special. When I referred to the menu showing him the soup course was listed on the “Valentine’s Day” special menu, he replied, “It doesn’t say it’s included.” When I suggested that inclusion is implied since it’s on the “Valentine’s Day” special menu, with the price listed at the bottom, he replied, “It’s not” and suggested that I was confused about the menu. We asked the people at the table next to us have a look at the “Valentine’s Day” menu and they came to the same conclusion.
There was also confusion on the part of the waitress about the menu. She couldn’t answer any questions about the menu and had to get the less than friendly manager. Clearly it was a new menu and they were unprepared . Even if the soup on the menu was a mistake, they should have comp’ed us the soup and then fixed the menu.
Frankly, I was so put off by this, I couldn’t tell you what we ate, or how the food was. It couldn’t have been very good since it was so forgettable. It was embarrassing to have to quibble about a confusing menu in front of my dinner guest. On the other hand, honesty is important and if the soup and beer were listed on the fix price menu then it should have been included.
While Jake’s beer selection is good, it’s not worth dealing with the poorly trained wait staff and management. There plenty of other good choices for food and spirits, I won’t be visiting Jake’s again anytime soon.…
