Editorial Review for Whiskey's Food & Spirits – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Early in the evening, Whiskey's caters to the after-work crowd, but later it becomes a popular hangout for Boston's collegiate set. The ratio of men to women tends to make this place a classic pick-up joint on the weekends. Given the clientele, bottles of beer and shots prove popular. Peckish patrons enjoy standard bar food (tater skins, wings) and barbecue (meaty ribs, pulled pork).

Just this past week, during a pivotal game between the Patriots and Jets, I went to Whiskeys because I knew there would be empty seats because the other great sports bars in the area (i.e. McGreevy's, Champions) were already packed. I asked for a seat by a tv which took 2 or 3 times for the hostess to get it right and finally was sat facing a nice flat screen. One problem though, the Bruins game was on. Now if someone was watching the blowout (4-0 bruins end of the 2nd period) I would have let them finish. But since no one was watching, I first asked the waitress to put the Pats game on and she said it would come on when the game started, which it didn't. Then I asked the hostess to change and she said she would get the manager to change it, which she didn't. Finally I asked the waitress again and she said that we had to keep it on since it was the only TV with the Bruins on, of which no one was watching. I asked her to get the manager and explained to her the first rule of business, the customer is always right. Well, next thing you know, the manager comes over, not alone, but with his muscle, in case things got out of line and explained to me that I had made the waitress cry. he said he would get to it when he could which was b.s. because I saw him yucking it up with some young ladies while im trying to watch football. Not only that, but they have freakin Soulja Boy ,'Supaman dat ...' blaring in the background when clearly everyone wants to hear the game. Basically when it all comes down to it, Whiskeys has gotten a little to high and mighter for themselves, after winning a contest put on by Maxim in which they were racked #1 neighborhood bar, whatever that means. The food has also gone downhill. The next time you will find me in Whiskeys will be when I am unemployed and can scrounge up $2.00 for a plate of 20 wings. Other than that, I was truly disappointed and you guys lost a great supporter of your bar.

Pros: Beer selection (but so does every bar on Boylston) and Big Buck Hunter

Cons: Music blaring while watching a game, staff, doormen, waitresses, bartenders, food, service

I attempted to spend a night at this bar with a few friends. After a few drinks, we were instructed to leave the bar because my friend could not handle any more alcohol. Despite his eloquent please otherwise, he was forcibly removed without reason and without explanation. He is of non-causcasian descent- draw your own conclusions. There are other bars on Boylston St. that treat their customers with respect. You will be far better off patroning these establishments instead of Whiskey's.

Pros: no positives

Cons: poor service, treat customers poorly
