What People Are Saying About Davio's

The Owner

Davio's

Owner

In the fall of 2002, after 17 years on Newbury Street, Davio's relocated to 75 Arlington Street. Handsomely filling the first floor of the legendary Paine Furniture Building in Park Square, the room's urbane sophistication remains true to the integrity of this landmark Back Bay structure while fulfilling owner Steve DiFillippo's restaurant wish list.

The space has allowed Davio's to build an enormous open kitchen backed with a bakery where both pastry chef and baker make all of the desserts and breads offered here. A temperature-controlled wine room holds more than 300 different bottles while two full-time wine stewards are employed.

The Scene
With its handsome, high-ceilinged dining room (complete with massive columns, 18-foot windows and a huge open kitchen), Davio's lays claim to having one of the city's most striking restaurant interiors. The welcoming bar area's couches and booths offer a comfy place for an after-work drink, as well as a good vantage point for spotting celebs. (The restaurant is a favorite of visiting athletes.) Attentive servers stay active while traversing the 9,000 square-foot room.

The Food

Davio's menu offers a most sophisticated take on Italian and steakhouse classics. While house favorites like a grilled porterhouse veal chop or lobster risotto with fresh asparagus impress gourmands, fussier diners can opt for divinely rich mac-and-cheese with white truffle oil or the bar menu's steak burgers and thin-crust pizzas. Sinful tiramisu and lemon panna cotta with caramelized pineapples make for delicious dessert options.

For an upscale evening, a special occasion or just something different, this is your ticket. The classic Italian Steak House has all of the traditional meats, sides and apps you can think of, but it also offers a nice twist on a few fronts. The Philly Cheese Steak spring rolls are simply out of this world and the Eggplant Parmesan side is also fantastic Don't skip the mac-n-cheese and definitely think about springing for the Kobe Beef steak. 10 oz. of phenomenal food! If you are looking for a nice steak dinner, look no further. If steak isn't your thing, there are plenty of non-meat dishes and a host of Italian entrees as well. In my view, this is better than S&W and Grill 23, although the ambiance is different at all three. For something different, sit at the kitchen bar in Davios, and watch the magic unfold before your eyes.

We eat at Davio's 2-3 times a year and always have a good experience. The dining room is beautiful and there is a certain buzz that adds to the meal. It reminds me of a NYC restaurant; in fact the last time we saw Derek Jeter and a bunch of his Yankee teammates. Our waiters have always been friendly and we trust their suggestions. We typically start with a cocktail and an appetizer or two. My husband usually orders a steak while I tend to gravitate towards healthier fare. The menu is varied with plenty of options so it never feels as though one of us compromised. Although they have a sizable wine list we are not wine drinkers so I cannot comment on the quality. Deserts are another story; they are a real treat and worth the calories!! When the weather is poor, having parking in the building is a big plus. When the weather is better, we tend to spend the afternoon shopping around Copley Place and Newbury Street before making the short walk over.
