Stephanie's on Newbury has been a popular dining destination since its opening in 1994. In the heart of Boston's upscale Newbury Street shopping district, Stephanie's features a sidewalk cafe, a club-like bar and skylit dining space. The restaurant seats up to 200 inside and 100 on the patio. It is open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.

Editorial Review for Stephanie's on Newbury – by Eric Grossman

The Scene
This longtime summer favorite--for its sprawl of outdoor tables--also offers a warming fireplace for cold-weather dinners, situated between the richly appointed dining room and the smoky bar. Chef-owner Stephanie Siddell presides over this all-occasion spot with a sense of ceremony (music ranges from La Boheme to Gypsy Kings) and a menu where nothing needs translation. Everyone's here but the foodies.

The Food
Comfort food never goes out of style because it has something for everyone--a baseball-sized tenderloin for carnivores, cornucopia-sized salads for weight watchers, an unpretentious chicken potpie for, well, comfort. Appetizers are pricey, but as huge as the entrees: Artichoke-spinach dip with smoked Gouda could serve three as a starter. Seared scallops artfully arranged around a potato galette (a frequent special) are light but substantive. Retro desserts are big and gooey: Pineapple upside-down cake with fresh pineapple comes delightfully smothered in caramel.

Save Money

Prices on meaty entrees bump up the bill, but regulars know to pick the dinner-sized salads or the comfort-food classics at two-thirds the cost.

Stefanies is a great place to have a leisurely brunch with friends or significant other...the food is tasty and they have enough of a variety for everyone...they make a great bloody mary and if its after noon - Id recommend their lemonade cocktail...its so refreshing! I especially love the outdoor seating to people watch...the restaurant is perfectly located on Newbury street so after eating and people watching you can shop til you drop!

Pros: Great locale

Cons: Expensive

After reading restaurant reviews for years, I finally felt compelled to write after receiving such a terrible meal last night at Stephanie's. Quite simply, the food was awful. My fiance's New England Clam Chowder was as thick as wallpaper paste, and my Summer House Salad was nothing more than a half a head of iceberg lettuce drenched in balsamic dressing. Moving on to the main course, I ordered the "special", which was Mahi Mahi over "Spanish Rice". The fish was overcooked, and there was nothing "Spanish" about the rice; it was simply white rice mixed with peas and corn. Although served with a lime sauce, it was flavorless. Speaking of flavorless, my fiance's Cavatappi Chicken was a disaster. No taste, and quite frankly, disgusting looking chicken. All in all, a terrible meal. Much, much better options available in Boston.

Cons: The perfect combination of terrible food and high prices
