Consistently good.
Legal is consistenly good for seafood. We like to eat here for a casual lunch or dinner. The quality of the seafood is always good. A favorite of mine is the baked scrod, and my fiancee loves the arctic char. We have enjoyed the wine flight as a beverage. At Park Square we have always had good service, but at the Burlington Mall location it has been hit or miss. Whenever tartar sauce is requested only a small cup is provided.
Overall if I would like a nice seafood meal at a fair price I instantly think of Legal.
A New England institution where diners don bibs and crack open lobsters with their bare hands..
In Short
With 30-plus outposts up and down the Eastern seaboard, this Cambridge-based chain reels in a seemingly endless supply of after-work professionals and tired tourists. The look varies somewhat from establishment to establishment but a casually nautical theme and a crowd as loud as the ocean's roar are fairly consistent. Signature dishes include clam chowder, wood-grilled swordfish, steamed clams, and 2-pound lobsters that can be ordered baked and stuffed with scallops and shrimp.
Something for everyone. It is a chain restaurant but the menu is better than you average seafood chain. It is a pretty large menu that has something for everyone. The crab dip is a great appetizer. I've eaten at this location several times and the service has always been good.
Really bad seafood..
The food was really bad. Some of the worst seafood I've had in a long time. Overcooked & dry. Even the bread was stale.
The waitress complained about the "High-maintenanace ladies from Newton" at the table next to us. "You know how they are."
Better than Prudential location. Went here last week. We were staying in Copley at the Fairmount and went over to the Prudential Center location (because it is closer) and the wait was extremely long so we hopped in a cab and were seated almost immediately. Food was excellent, Clam Chowder was very good. Service was great we had a very nice evening. The Banana Foster dessert was especially delicious. We went during the week so that may have been why it wasn't so busy either way I recommend making reservations.
Try the new wine cellar!. After waiting about 20 minutes for a seat, we were seated in the new basement wine cellar seating area. It had a beautiful ambience, quieter than the main area, and surrounded by the huge wine cellar. Our dinner was outstanding and the service was spot on. Our server even deducted the price of a clam chowder when one of our guests wasn't feeling well enough to finish it. Having eaten at legal's numerous times, this was by far the best experience. You can always count on the food though. Also, know that reservation times are only a suggestion of roughly when you might get seated.
Valentines Day.
I had been to legal at Park Pz for the Valentines Day and the experience was disastrous.
- There were constant loud announcements on the microphone for the seating. 2 every minute.
- Tables were placed very close to accommodate more people. Seriously people, it was so close that I was getting constantly sprayed by the people eating Lobsters.
- They literally chased people out by handing the check even before you finished eating.
- Very loud atmosphere.
- The chowder was anything but Legal by Legal standards.
- Overall Terrible experience. Could not wait to get out and stretch.
Hope this helps.
Disappointing. Clam chowder was bland, lobster bisque was cold and was heavily flavored with liquid smoke. Calamari was served with tartar sauce, and the waiter should have told us about the three flavor options but didn't. We were very disappointed and it wasn't worth the visit. Too expensive and not worth it.
Seafood for everyone. even if you dont like seafood you're likely to find something here. yes it's a chain of restaurants but they're quite good. an extensive selection of fresh seafood prepared every way imaginable with some great side dishes. not inexpensive but worthwhile.
my move to boston. i recently moved to boston from florida, and my friend suggested legal sea foods. it was so good, and my server was awesome. the ambiance was great, and i'm completely a regular now.
