Editorial Review for Morton's - The Steakhouse – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
With its dark wood details, celebrity photos and tuxedo-clad waiters, this upscale steakhouse chain has the air of a posh men's club. Service is professional and discreet, with bartenders making a mean martini. Dinners begin with a waiter-driven cart laden with fresh vegetables, live lobster and cuts of steak; customers choose from porterhouse, rib-eye, bone-in prime rib and more. Side dishes are traditional and enormous, from baked potatoes and creamed spinach to steamed broccoli with hollandaise.

My best friend took me here for my birthday. What a disappointment. I've heard so many raves about this place but it was definitely nothing special and so very much over-rated and over-priced. The steak was decent but not really any better than what I can get for half the price at other places. The giant-sized onion roll that came with the table was awful. Dry and very messy with pats of rock-hard cold butter on the side. How am I supposed to spread that? Bread is not expensive to make and should be a delight to go with yor meal. This bread was anything but. Plus, my dessert was terrible. I don't remember what it was called, but it was some chilled chocolate-type cake. Couldn't hardly taste the chocolate for the overwhelming flavor of the alcohol this thing had been drowned in when it was being made. The waitress seemed very disinterested in actually doing her job. And the atmosphere is just sad. I know what it was SUPPOSED to be, but it falls far short. There are places you can go that will make you feel much more special. For the good, however, I did adore the steak fries and the shrimp cocktail appetizer I got. My friend's baked shrimp appetizer was also very good, as was his warm chocolate cake dessert. That's about all the good I can say about Morton's. I wish we hadn't wasted so much money for what we got. I hope you don't either if you're reading this. For what this place costs, it should be out of this world. It wasn't. Try a different place for steak. I know I'm going to. Good luck!

Pros: Steak fries and appetizers

Cons: Service, quality, price

This place is perfect for special occasions. When making the reservation, I let them know I was bringing my veteran fiance, there for his birthday. They sat us in nice big booth and handed us personalized menus that read "Happy Birthday (Name)" at the top. We started with the smoked salmon, which he was hesitant to get but then ate more than me. He ordered the filet and I the Cajun Ribeye. That was amazing! The amount of herbs and spices the chef used was perfect. I savored every bite while sharing only 2 bites with my fiance. The wine that the Assistant Manager helped us pair with our entrees was perfect too! And I'm not a fan of Red Wine, but the White Horse was light and we finished the bottle just in time for dessert. I would have never known it was the server's first night, she looked like a pro. The only negative thing I could think of was the host stand. When the table was ready for us they said we could close our tab at the bar and they'd seat us. But when I went over there, they weren't ready. They were running around as if they were short one person. Though on our way out the hostesses fetched our coats promptly and smiled at us as we lift with full bellies and left overs to look forward to.

Pros: Cajun Ribeye Steak, prefect martini, service, crowd volume, romantic

Cons: host stand, no windows
