Editorial Review for G2O – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
Housed on several floors in a narrow building along the westernmost block of Newbury Street, this personal beauty emporium offers the latest in cutting-edge services, and all the requisite primps and prods, to a varied clientele. Suburban housewives and professional athletes (several Patriots stop by for haircuts) enjoy the friendly service and pretension-free environment.

The Services
While it does provide clients with every salon procedure under the sun (including laser hair removal), what makes Giuliano's stand out is its overwhelming assortment of spa therapies, treatments and wraps. In the basement floor's 20-odd treatment rooms, patrons are twisted, dunked and contorted in ways previously thought unimaginable. Among the most rewarding services are the soft-pack body wrap (the waterbed-like blanket provides a floating sensation) and the dry heat "alpha sauna capsule" that combines aromatherapy with massage therapy. Finish off with an invigorating natural body polish and you'll be good as new.

The Details

Dry sauna (fee, coed), fitness classes (fee, coed), Pilates (fee, coed), yoga (fee, coed). Massage, body treatments, Reiki, wet treatments, facials, sunless tanning, medi-spa treatments, hair removal, manicure/pedicure, full-service salon, makeup application.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

My girlfriend has been going to G2O for about a year now(maybe longer) and gets her hair cut and highlighted with Brady and she always looks great. She's been trying to get me to go see him since I usually go to whatever's cheap and I can walk right in and get a cut. Only problem, half the time I come home and my girlfriend freaks out when she sees me.....yeah I've had a few really bad haircuts. My last one was so bad that she insisted on making an appointment with Brady for me. I have to say it's the best $50 I've spent in a long time. Brady gave me by far the best cut I've ever had, easy to keep as well. My girlfriend won't let me go to anyone else now. She's happy, I'm certainly happy and the salon is really nice. Highly recommended!

Pros: excellent cut and my GF's color always looks great

Cons: none

I was referred to Darren at G20 on Newbury by two friends who have great hair, so after commuting to Manhattan every time I wanted a cut, I bit the bullet and tried a new place. While I must say that my highlights are great - really natural and exactly what I wanted - I will NEVER let him come near me with scissors again. My hair looked great in the chair, but as soon as I left and started to play with it, everything changed. I tried to live with it for a week, but ended up going down the street to a much better (and cheaper) salon in Somerville to get it fixed. The new stylist didn't believe me when I told her I had just gotten a cut - my ends were a mess, the shape was all wonky and the layers were all uneven. Speaking of layers, he gave me some thick, choppy super-short layers that give me a judy jetson style bubble head (with some random long pieces underneath) which unfortunately can only be fixed by time. Plus, he had left a hole on one side of my face and a 2-inch wide chunk in the back that was longer than everything else. Not cute. All in all, Darren is a fraud. Go there only if you want to leave with a weird, unfixable shape looking like you haven't gotten a cut in months. If I only I could get my money back...

Pros: Ambiance

Cons: terrible results
