What People Are Saying About Bukowski Tavern

The Scene – In a city full of Irish pubs and characterless pickup spots, locals cherish colorful, eclectic spots like this one. Upon entering the narrow bar, it's easy to see why. Visitors squeeze through a diverse crowd (usually seen nodding along to a unique soundtrack) to reach the bar, which serves one of the area's lengthiest beer menus. The atmosphere is completed by prints and murals of counterculture literary types (Charles Bukowski, Gertrude Stein and Anais Nin), as well as funny, friendly bartenders. – – The Draw – The majority of patrons come here to choose…
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Can't decide among the dozens of beer offered? Bartenders are all too happy to spin the colorful "Wheel of Indecision" to help you make a selection.
- Know Before You Go:
- The bar doesn't have a full liquor license (beer and wine only).
- Save Money:
- Cash-strapped students, take note: weekdays from noon to 8pm, plain burgers and hot dogs are $1.69 each (add a buck for cheese or fries).
- Save Time:
- The bar's cash only--there's an ATM within easy walking distance just down the block.
NEVER AGAIN

Hello,
Can you ask your short-haired, bobbed brunette bartender to quit checking her phone next to the register, ignoring her customers, and then acting condescendingly when they are forced to wave her down for a drink after they witnessed her looking at her phone for 5 minutes straight?! If not, I suggest you get a decent bartender with a better attitude. Not only did she offend me with her repulsive demeanor, but she offended my friend, who ironically had suggested Bukowski's in the first place since he works in the area. And oh yeah, you have a great selection of beers, but unfortunately your staff took plenty away from that.
Sincerely yours,
Never again.

Decent Bar

I went here on the strength of its reputation as a good dive bar. The bartender was friendly, and pretty quick with service. The burger I had was cooked perfectly. The reason I gave three stars...is that while it was a pleasant overall experience...it wasn't what the hype of the other reviews would have you think. It's not outrageously priced...but too expensive to be considered a dive. Food's good...beer selection is good, service is good......but I just didn't see what was memorable about the place.
- Pros: Beer Selection
- Cons: too pricey to be considered a true "dive"
Great food, specials, and a Ridiculous Beer Selection!

This is a tiny, dark, wonderful pub... great for the beer snob. Happy hours offer buck burgers - and they're delicious!
- Pros: great food, expansive beer selection, food specials
- Cons: limited seating, cash only
