38 minutes for an order of pancakes. I stopped by the restaurant at 8:10 AM knowing I had a 9 AM appt. I ordered immediately knowing I was short time. I ordered pancakes as that should be the easiest item. Unfortunately, I was wrong. At 8:30 the wait staff brought some little bread stick "to hold us over" and at 8:40 I asked that my order be cancelled as I had a 9 AM meeting. I was told they are cooking now. Then at 8:48, they came, I ate a few bites and had to leave.

It is not like this place has 100 seats. Reviews were good but if you are short time, stay as far away as you can...

Great Food and Service. Thornton's Restaurant has become somewhat of a tradition for me and my family everytime we come to Boston. The waitstaff is always friendly and efficient and the food is delicious. The past time we came in on a busy sunday but we were approached immediately and seated very quickly. Even though the restuarant was full and there was a line down the block, the food came out hot and quick. While we waited for our food the waitress had a conversation with us as she brought the drinks and immediately went to go check on our food.

The only difficult part of the entire experience was deciding what to eat off of their ENOURMOUS menu. This menu would satisfy me no matter what craving I could have. Being a 5 minute walk from a dozen hotels I would highly recommend this restuarant for breakfast or lunch to anyone visiting boston or anyone who lives here. Go and enjoy a great sense of environment with fast friendly service and delicious food.

SLOW, INEFFICIENT. My sons and I met Sunday for brunch. At first the wait outside was understandable given the nice weather and 2:00 Red Sox game. However, once we sat down, we came to realize it was not the number of people but rather the slowness of the service and the kitchen. Because the waiter had several tables inside and out, he was unable to provide even coffee, juice and water on a timely basis. The eggs took 40 minutes and were tasteless and cold. As we were finishing we were told the credit card machine was down so cash only. Friends who got there after were not "warned" about cash only until they handed the credit card to the waitress!
