GROSS. I also saw the rodents the other night. The staff could not have been any more rude if they tried. I was livid when I left this place.

gross. I was looking for a quick bite to eat, and heard about The Hill Tavern. I went, sat at my table, found out they were no longer serving food, but decided I would stay to get a drink. This quickly changed when I saw a huge rodent, I'm talking the size of a small dog, come from up the basement stairs and run into the kitchen. This thing was not only massive but it was not alone, as just seconds after one of its giant friends came from up the steps, and ran into the kitchen. I don't know what kind of operation they are running there but to have rodents that size makes me wonder if they are getting into the food, and how clean the restaurant truly is. The owner should be appalled!

Cozy and affordable. We were visiting Boston (Harvard) with our son and our hotel was just across the street from Hill Tavern. We ate here as a convenience more than anything, but were delightfully surprized. First visit I had a burger and fries, but it was very good. We were seated by the front window and it made the experience much more enjoyable. The second visit, again because we knew it was good and just across the street, I tried a chicken cesar salad, which I do not recommend. It sort of tasted funny, which should have been a red flag, but I ate it anyway.

Not wanting to give up, we ate there a THIRD time with our son and I had the pulled pork sandwich. WOW. I am from the south and this was a GOOD BBQ sandwich. Our waitress wasn't as good that time. She was preoccupied with the doctors from Mass. General seated at the bar.

This is the way "Cheers" should have been. Affordable, cozy, relaxing. We chose not to eat on the sidewalk due to strong wind caused by passing cars, but this is a quaint, Boston-feel tavern.

One of Beacon Hill's most welcoming restaurants doubles as a relaxed nightlife spot.. The Scene
Is it a neighborhood restaurant with a great bar, or a neighborhood bar with great food? One's opinion is shaped by the time of visit; during the day and on quiet nights, most patrons come in to nosh on some of the city's best burgers and sandwiches, while weekend nights see a noisy bar scene take over. As one of Beacon Hill's least pretentious spots, the Hill is a favorite among area workers for lunch or an after-work drink.

The Food
Any discussion of the food has to begin with the house burger. Seven ounces of top-flight ground sirloin arrives courtesy of Savenor's (Beacon Hill's top butcher), wood-grilled to juicy perfection and served with hand-cut fries. Inventive pizzas (try the avocado, bacon and potato variety) are also delicious and ideal for sharing at the bar. Don't forget to check the list of daily specials, including nourishing homemade soups.

Awesome bar food. The burger is amazing and always comes perfectly cooked. The pulled pork sandwich is the most amazing sandwich ever after three or four beers, and my non-drinking, non-meat eating, seafood-loving girlfriend also gets and enjoys the crab cake sandwich. The sweet potato fries are often disappointing and come out limp and soggy, but the regular fries are delicious. A great weekday hangout, and it gets quite crowded on the weekends, especially after 8 pm, if you like that sort of thing. But great food that my girlfriend and I return for on a weekly basis.

Bar food plus. The nightly fish special here is usually top-notch. I have to disagree with the praises about the burger; the beef may be high-quality, but they shape it into a sphere shape, that I did not find appealing in the least. It's been awhile since I've order a burger, though--maybe they've learned how to shape a patty now. It is frequently fun here, though sometimes there's a bit too much of a frat-boy element.

fun times. Great place for pizza, good beer on tap, good music, and a warm wait staff.

A sociable place.... The Hill overall is a great place to grab something to eat and share a few beers with friends. It used to be an excellent late night bar but recent management has pushed the restaurant aspect at the expense of diminishing the bar scene. Not a place for those seeking a gregarious night out but a good place for reasonably priced food and few drinks.
