7 Bugs In My Wine. We ate at Filippo Restaurant tonight after seeing its good reviews online. This was a mistake.

I ordered a glass of house Merlot. (They offer a wine list of numerous bottles, but the only wine they sell by the glass is house wine.) We ordered our drinks with our appetizers and dinners. The appetizers arrived before the wine. When the wine arrived, I looked at my Merlot to see not one, but seven insects floating in the wine, one was clearly alive. I'm not sure about the rest. My husband took the glass up to the bar since we didn't see our server and the man who had seated us got another glass of Merlot, which he brought to the table. He never apologized, nor did anyone at any time. The bugless Merlot was not that great.

For appetizers, I ordered a Caprese salad and my husband ordered Bruschetta Napolitana. Conveniently, each came with four items, so we shared. I am always a fan of Caprese salad, but this was very boring. The tomatoes were pale and flavorless. I realize that it is June and not tomato season, but they should still be able to do better. The Caprese did have nice thick slices of mozzarella. The Bruschetta Napolitana was interesting and decent, if a bit messy.

I had the Scampi Francavillese, which I thought was very bland. My husband had the Tortellini Quattro Formaggi. My taste was good.

Our dinner was very disappointing and overpriced for the quality of the food. I had also expected that since there were seven bugs in my wine, they might at least not charge us for the wine, but they did. The total was $70 before tip.

Background: It was a Tuesday night and when we arrived around 7 or 7:30pm, we were the only customers in the restaurant. While we were there a woman came in and sat at the bar for a little while and another woman came in with four children, but they ate and left in a short period of time. We were seated by one man and another man, who was serving as bartender also served as our waiter. We left a little before 9pm.

Yummy Italian. This was the best Italian food that I have had in a while. The food was superb and the service was excellent. When we walked in the host and the servers were polite and really welcoming. The server was attentive and provided good suggestions about what to eat. The menu is quite large and there was a lot of things to choose from that seemed delicious. I had the bruchetta which was fresh, fresh, fresh. The entrees were a great portion size and they were amazing. This is a great place to go if you are on a date or going out with friends.

Delicious authentic Italian food and great service!. Filippo's has become one of our favorite restaurants in the North End. The pasta, chicken, veal, and seafood dishes are all great. The red sauce is especially good with a perfect consistency and flavor - not too sweet. The serving staff is extremely friendly and accomodating (and very Italian). If you don't see something on the menu that strikes your fancy a particular time, just tell them in general what you're in the mood for, and they'll prepare a terrific meal for you. Filippo's has a good selection of Italian wines to accompany your meal. I know that people tend to head to the hustle and bustle of the Hanover and Salem street area, but if you don't try Filippo's, you'll miss out on a great experience.
