“This person claims that she was sick after eating but the King and I is a clean place and has delicious and affordable food.”
Disappointing food. Very disappointing experience. The dish I chose was scorchingly hot, probably indicating that it had not been made to order, but pre-prepared and microwaved instead. The curry sauce was like a tasteless broth with no hint of fresh spices. The rice was obviously precooked, rather than freshly steamed.
One of the best Thai restaurant in town. got a pad thai togo here last week and it's great. I ordered a beef salad and I ate to the last piece. The beef was so tender and cooked to your order. The place is nice and clean, but it's small. You can't have a big group party here and would bother others if you make so much noise. It's ideal to order out, I think.
Keep walking.... I was in the Beacon Hill area and in the mood for Thai. I went alone and watched my ipod, and just was not impressed. Ambience is lacking, and really feels like a hole in the wall - with prices that are too high for the environment. There really is no other restaurants that close to the MGH area - but really, if you truly like Thai - look elsewhere - if you are in the area its worth taking a cab anywhere else. Average and below average thai. I had the pad thai and thai rolls, and was not impressed at all. Worcester has better hole in the wall takeout places with such a higher quality of food.
average.
appetizers: coconut chicken soup is good too. satay... i personally like penang's better. the chicken here is not grilled enough (i.e. looks pale) and the peanut sauce is a bit on the watery side.
mains: pad thai and pad see you (broad rice noodle w/choice of meat) are on par. my friend had a pork tenderloin main course that has gone well beyond expectations on portion: 5 small slices of pork w/heaps of mushroom.
price is reasonable given that we ordered 3 mains, 1 appetizer, 1 soup, and opened a bottle of wine.
w/all thai & malaysian restaurants out there, i wouldn't go back specifically for the food, but i certainly wouldn't mind going again if i'm in the area.
parking on charles street always seems daunting to me. but that week night we went, around 7:30pm, there were plenty of spots at this end of the street.
:)
Great Thai Food and Good Portions. In a city where ethnic restaurants are few and far between (especially Thai) this place is one of my favorite in the city. I?m originally from DC where Thai restaurants are as common as Starbucks and when I first moved here I unfortunately had to toil through the few Thai places that Boston has I found King and I. They have the best Pad Thai I?ve ever had and huge portions of everything unlike 99% of other Thai places Who cares if this places lacks decor, are you ordering wall paper as your meal?? Two thumbs up for King and I. If you go for lunch get there when they open the place fills up to full capacity very quickly.
Not authentic Thai.
This place caters too much to upper class America. So much so that it lacks authenticity. I can make better Thai dishes at home than this place could offer. It was cold, no Asian decor, just your average Martha Stewart floral paintings. I ordered Pineapple fried rice(Brown Sugar in Brighton has the best!), which comes with Shrimp and Chicken. I requested not to have chicken and instead substitute more shrimp. Waiter agreed and returned with pinepples, few vegetable and a plate of rice. A woman nearby was beckoned and I tried to explain what was missing. She called my dish 'Fried Rice w/Pinepple', I tried to correct her numerous times until I figured to call it a loss and just tell her I wanted shrimp. My original waiter came over and he apologized and returned with 4-5 pieces of boiled shrimp layed across the rice. Voila! that was my meal. No taste, no salt, not Thai!
To make matters worse I had cramping and 'sickness' for the next 2 days. Never Again...
not good. awful service. awful food. i get sick almost everytime single time i eat there. i reported this restaurant to the health inspectors after i went last week. i only used to eat here because it is close to my office and there arent many other cheap options, but i will never go back.
Best noodle dishes ever!!. Hey if you think that their pad thai is good- you gotta try their pad see you- it's honestly the best in the world. When I visit the King and I, I always have a hard time choosing between all the noodle dishes. Service is prompt and the atmoshphere is nice. 7 or 8 years back there used to be 4 or 5 thai restaurants in the area- I'm glad this place is still here after all these years.
Best service and food ever for Thai Restaurant!!!.
Since I could have remembered, I always been there since I was a little boy with my parent and my younger brother (I don't know
for how long they've been there?). This is the favorite place for our family and myself. We always been there at least once a week
or on the special occasions such as mother's and father's day, my mom's birthday. What I've been so happy with is the service
and the taste of the food. The staffs over there is very very friendly and very kind to do whatever you ask them to do about the
food. Talk about the taste, this restaurant is one of the best(in my opinion) I ever tried for Thai restaurant. I've never had
any problems with the food there at all, even it's not on the menu, just ask them they are very happy to do their best for you.
My favorite appetizer are paradise beef, chicken satay, crunchy salad. My favorite main courses are medley of the sea,pat thai,
chicken cashew nut. Actually I have more but those are what we always ask for whenever I've been there.
Until now I've got 2 kids, we're still going there as usual and the funny thing is my 2 little kids like exactly the same I recommend above... In my opinion, this is one of the best places for me when I
think about thai restaurant. Very recommended.
Best Thai food in Boston. I disagree with Kristin's review. I eat there regularly twice a week as well as thousands of my co-workers at MGH. The food and service at King and I is always great. This person claims that she was sick after eating but the King and I is a clean place and has delicious and affordable food.
