“The staff is very nice and they have some good products that we can find only there.”
“Crazy overpriced, as are all things in Beacon Hill, but the staff is super friendly and helpful, and since it's so close to home I go there”
Editorial Review. A historical Beacon Hill landmark for over a century, DeLuca's purveys gourmet groceries and wine/beer/spirits to a tony clientele.
Convenient, some interresting products but be careful with cheeses.
I am French, living in Beacon Hill and very picky about food. It is a well located store with a piano inside that they sometime use. The staff is very nice and they have some good products that we can find only there.
Deluca was one of the grocery I was used to go every day, but I was so often surprised by the very poor quality of their cheeses that I am going there only to buy what I forgot to buy elsewhere. A large number of cheese are already expired by a significant amount of time. And the oldest are often offered for a free try!
So it is an ok grocery, if you don't want cheese
If you are looking for cheese, I really don't recommend it, go to whole food or Savenor instead (5 min walk)
Health Risk. Today the FDA issued a warning to consumers to NOT eat bagged spinach as there have been 50 illnesses including multiple deaths due to ecoli contamination. The owner of Deluca's was interviewed on WHDH-TV Channel 7 saying he would not pull the bags since people "may want to purchase them"!! Apalling greed. Obviously profits are more important than our safety to this owner. I'd avoid this place at all costs.
