“The decor is nice and the waitstaff was attentive.”
“The wines aren't excellent quality, but they're chosen to go well with basic Italian and the three times we've utilized the special we've never gotten a bad bottle.”
“would wait a long time to eat this amazing food!”

Horrible! Will not go back. I have not been to this restaurant and years but decided to go back tonight. First of all, we made reservations and when we got there, they girl did not honour our reservations. She sent us to one of two bars next door so we would not be in the cold and rain. We ordered drinks from a bar that is not even owned by them, we started to sip when she came to get us. We could not take our drinks with us as they are separate establishments. Thank God we did not have to pay. We then went to the restaurant, dirty, small, seat with holes in them, and the bathroom was beyond filthy. The waitresses were sisters, and best friends we gathered from their loud conversation and totally rude. Our waitress never came back to ask if we needed anything, brought us coffee with out milk/cream or sugar. Not worth the money for that money would go across the street to Mama Maria or better yet Strega. NEVER AGAIN. Everyone in our party of 6 said the same thing.…
Food has gone downhill. We have loved our meals for years at G'Vannis, today at lunch we were so disappointed..the bread seemed to be a frozen loaf of Wonder bread quality..How can that be in the NorthEnd with such good bread around..Veal Parmesan did not seem freshly cooked, and really small portion for 17.00!!So sad...won't be back..Also, No chianti??Seriously??????????????…
Too many restaurants on the No End to bother here.
There are way too many great restaurants on the North End to bother….seriously. It looks like they continue to treat customers with disrespect…see 9/20 review.
I had a 6PM reservation...we were told 5 different times that it would be just 20 more minutes....we were finally seated at 7:15!!!! One hour and 15 minutes later and I had a confirmed appointment (OpenTable)? According the hostess, they had no one in charge; she gave me a business card and said I could call on Monday. When I told the hostess that I was going to complain to OpenTable and to Restdotcom, she said that you would not be interested because “their restaurant brought in so much money for them”….such arrogance. Accordingly, we went around the corner to have a cocktail (at another restaurant’s bar). This is from where I would repeatedly go back to G’Vannis to check on the status and each time I was told 20 more minutes. The final indignation came when the hostess came to the bar to get us; telling us our table was now ready. My party of 4 left the bar only to find that the table was not really ready and that we were now outside in 24 degree weather. A nice evening out ruined!
This is not an isolated situation according to the “bouncer” that they have stationed at the front door…he says that they are always late. In fact, he said that he has told the owners that they shouldn’t even take reservations. I gather that this is so as I heard 4 other parties complain and asked for a manager. You know if they would have been more professional and considerate about this situation it wouldn’t have ruined the evening (my wife’s birthday celebration). Even a small token such as a free dessert for my wife or perhaps a cocktail would have at least shown that they were empathetic. Believe it or not I never received an apology.
The food was descent.
Service was average.…
Classic Italian-American.
G'Vanni's is this tiny hole in the wall spot on Prince around the corner from the hustle & bustle of Hanover. I won a $50 BuyWithMe to here waaaay back in November & decided to finally use it last
night.
I had a lovely evening with my date. We shared a carafe of Chianti, he had the pumpkin ravioli (sweet, substantial, great texture + they give you more than 5!) and I had the eggplant parm (which I was so craving... they definitely did not disappoint!).
The waitstaff pretty much leaves you alone, which in a small space is appreciated. Since the place is tiny, it's easy to flag them when you need them anyway.
They have a special called the Veally Good Deal. 2 dinners (choose from a list) + 1 bottle of wine (choose from a list) for $29.99. It's M-Th 12pm-6pm. And as you leave, they give you a coupon for $10 off! 2 dinners, 1 bottle for $19.99? I'll be back, thanks!
Make a reservation. This place has like 12 tables.…
Meh.. We've gone to G'vannis a couple of times because when we were disappointed the first time we figured they might just be having an off night and before writing a review we wanted to make sure we were being fair. Unfortunately, our subsequent visits haven't been great either so we're not going back. We found the food to be OK, not great, and at the prices they charge the food should have been spectacular. Small portions. Certainly enough for dinner, but we're used to going to other North End restaurants where we pay 2/3 the price and get double the food and take half home. Also, the waitstaff were surly and unhelpful. They made mistakes on our bill both times. Too much hassle and definitely not worth it for the mediocore food. Just go down the street and you'll find half a dozen other restaurants that are way better.…
