Tips for Dom's Restaurant

A place to relax with good food and friends. Leave the children with a sitter.. Dom's is not a family restuarant for children, etc. It is a place for couples and friends to gather and enjoy wonderful Italian cuisine. Drink some wine, enjoy good conversation and relax. The waiting will much less dramatic. Dom, himself has served me on many occasions, I enjoy the way he sits down at the table with us to discuss the menu and our selections of both food and wine. Like any restaurant there are good days and bad. All mine have been good. The Bolognaise is one of the best, simple and delightful. If you are looking for a place to spend the evening with good food and friends. Dom's is it!

Fans of Italian fare come to the North End to peruse the city's most detailed (and humorous) menu.. The Scene
Impatient diners beware; Dom's exhaustive menu takes great pains to explain its contents in great detail, so expect to spend a fair amount of time pouring through its 18 pages (and don't pass over the margins, which contain such helpful information as why a hangover occurs). Most diners don't have to go far to offer a compliment or complaint to the management; Dom himself waits on tables most nights.

The Food

From fresh vegetable antipasti to handmade pasta, homemade sauces to fresh fish; just about any Italian craving is satisfied by Dom's award-winning kitchen. After starting with an appetizer-sized portion of homemade asparagus tip ravioli, move onto fresh tagliatelle with smoky, meat-enhanced red gravy (Sugho di Pomodoro). Most diners opt to mix and match different meats with a variety of sauces (veal Madeira and chicken Fiorentina are popular choices). As for dessert, delicate homemade cannoli provide a light finishing touch.

"Great food, but the service s**ks!" - owner. We were out in Boston this weekend and while there visited with some family. They had heard wonderful things about Dom's and decided to make a reservation for the 4 of us for this past Friday night. When placing our orders, the owner said "The food is great, but the service s**ks!" He was right. It took one half hour to place our order and we didn't manage to get our wine until the 3rd request (about an hour into the evening). 2 hours later, we finally received our food. Prior to that, we did have some salad and bread. The owner took our order down on a Mead notebook and at the end of the night made up some of the prices for our meals. The bill ended up being almost $15 off. He adjusted it but didn't apologize for it being wrong, OR for our food taking hours to be prepared! The service is just as important as the food-- so if you intend to pay for a pricey meal and want to get waited on, look elsewhere!

Terrible service. Arrived at 7:55 for 8:00 reservation, seated at 9:00. Crowded tables with little atmosphere. Food flavor passable, pasta undercooked and 'clumped', presentation of food average. Would not eat there again.

Terrible customer service. Mediocre food.. We were seated right away on a Friday night, the menu was explained and our server was very helpful. We then waited over an hour for our food, which was only begrudgingly brought to us after we inquired about it 3 times. My pasta with broccoli was plunked down in front of me without a word (no apology)! To add insult to injury, the brocolli was on the brown side of green and there was not another word spoken to us. I even had to ask for the check!

The least that was required in this situation was an apology for such a delay. Especially considering there was a 6-year old child and woman 7-months pregnant in our party.

A real gem. We had an excellent overall experience on a weeknight. Personal, knowledgeable service combined with flavorful sauces, zesty sauces made from ingredients that taste farm fresh. The garlic bread and accompanying dip was so good we had to exercise extreme discipline not to just fill up with that. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is quirky and a little bit old, but that I suppose adds to the classic experience. Prices are reasonable to very good given the quality, service and large portions.

SUPERB! Friendly service, excellent food.. I've been to several highly rated restaurants in the North End, but none compared to Dom's. The service was exceptional (Marcello is very friendly and helpful). My girlfriend and I were particularly impressed; we eat out frequently in NYC, and I can honestly say that this was one of the top 5 restaurants we've been to. The pricing is moderate, but you get a lot of bang for the buck. I had Veal Saltimboca and my girlfriend had Osso Bucco. Additionally, we shared a Raviloi Appetizer Sampler. We also shared Gelato for dessert (before tip, our total was $74, which included two soft drinks). We were impressed with everything. Everything is served with AMAZING garlic bread and salad.

Fantastic!. Disregard that last review, Dom's is fantastic! I've been there numerous times, as has my family. We know exactly what we are getting when we go - exquisite food and personal recommendations from Dom, who, "will not fry [his] veal!" But, who will ask you what you "feel like" for dinner and then, even better, will make it! And, the canolis are delicious. I've never had a bad experience. If you want so-so food, go somewhere else. At Dom's, you get what you pay for - and MAN, is it good!

Just OK. I tried Dom's after hearing good things from a friend. After having a meal that I can only sum up as "OK", I have to agree with the Citysearch Editorial review.
