The Scene – Open since 1943, Mike and Annette Mercogliano's dessert institution has hosted presidents, celebrities and tourists from all corners of the globe. On weekends, this shop and cafe is nothing short of chaotic, and lines often stretch out the door. A cramped front area seats 50 and offers fantastic people-watching views of Hanover Street. – – The Food – From cookies and marzipan to gelato and hard-to-find Italian specialties like pasticiotto and torrone, the options can be dizzying. Visitors have been known to risk $50 tickets for leaving their cars idling in…
Excellent dessert!

Fast service, yummy Boston Cream pie, and very fun store. Well worth the drive, and trouble to find a parking space. A definite place to visit in the North End.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Can't think of anything
So-so dessert
by Alwayshungrygirl
I think this shop is overrated. I grew up in a very italian town and feel the cannolis don't compare.
Once you finish waiting in line, you cannot view the food you want because everyone is blocking...and you are rushed to make up your mind. No prices are shown, so you are left to worry if you've spent too much.
I'd recommend going 2 blocks down to another shop and avoid the crowds!
- Pros: Many options
- Cons: small and crowded
Marie antonette pasty hats inspired by Bruna Costumes of Providence
by einsteinalbert
The fashion show of hat by Bruna costumes paraded in front of the bakery. The hat that were really made of cloth were made to resemble the petite fours from the court of Marie Antonette. They were delecately detailed with fring and pearls and beads that resemble the real thing
It was hard to image that woman really wore these beautiful hats and gowns good enough to eat.
Great Display for the pastry shop and Bruna Costumes of Prov R.I. for the demonstration.
