“Sadly, despite their self-imposed view that they are coffee kings, Americans make terrible coffee, and Modern are no exception.”
“Their cookies and fruit pies are yummy too!”

“Skip the rude service at Cafe Dello Sport”
“Unless you want completely rude service at Cafe Dello Sport, the line at Modern is well worth the wait.”

Authentic Italian Bakery. Being a Bostonian, and having a grandfather that owned a pastry shop in the North End when I was a child, I can honestly say that I have never, ever been disappointed with Modern Pastry! The cannoli's are wonderful, as well as all the other Italian pastries. Everything is fresh, and has not been sitting in the fridge for hours. They also managed to incorporate some American Pastries/candies that are equally delightful. It's not a tourist trap like the other's. If you want an authentic Italian Bakery, then this spot is a must! Certainly worth the wait!!!…
Forgetaboutit!. Worst customer service in the City. Not worth the wait or the aggrevation. Do yourself a favor and walk across the street to Mike's.
Best Cannoli I have had.
After reviewing Mike's Pastry last week, it is time to judge Modern's Pastry and decide which one has the best cannoli. Mike's and Modern are right across the street from each other. Just like the
rivalry between Philly Cheesesteak establishments, Gino's and Pat's, it is dead intense. In my opinion, both pastry stores have their distinct strengths that attract loyal followers.
I came on a Saturday afternoon and the line already formed outside the store. After about 20 minutes wait, I got inside and was absolutely excited to see beautiful pastries on display and could not wait to try their legendary cannoli and other pastries.
They have all kinds of chocolate truffles, Italian chocolates, wafers, home-made cannoli, cupcakes, cakes, fruit tarts, biscotti, and bread. I ordered 2 mini cannoli, 1 chocolate biscotti, one chocolate almond bar and a chocolate covered strawberry all for $8! I am so delighted by the price because in NYC that would have cost me more than $15 easily.
So, after trying their cannoli, my judgment is that their cannolis are truly the best! Unlike Mike's Pastry or any other cannoli I have tried, Modern's cannoli is crispy on the outside and ultra soft and fresh inside. Fresh squeezed cream does make a difference! The other pastries are great too and their chocolate biscotti is full of pure chocolate. On the other hand, Mike's Pastry definitely outshines Modern in terms of variety of pastries and desserts (they have gelato too!) So my recommendation is try both places!…
Frozen Foods. I have gone here last year and was disapointed. It is a small dirty place. With over priced food. The day that I went I asked certain dessert and was given it by the owners wife. When I sat down and tried it I noticed it had been frozen. I can tell this because it lacked flavor. So I asked the woman in charge if she had any thing that was fresh. She gave me a very rude answer. She said that I wouldnt know the difference between fresh and frozen anyway. So with that I left and havent gone back. So if you like frozen over priced food given to you with a dirty look go here. Otherwise go to Mikes its much better.…
