“Some great bargains and friendly staff (but don't ask for too many samples!)”
“I've been there few times, the shops is nice and the fabric is affordable.”
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I went
on my lunch hour, thinking that I would get exactly what I wanted in a little bit of time. I could not have been more wrong. When I walked in there were three salespeople (one man and two women), and they were all talking to one customer. I stood patiently waiting to be waited on. And I waited and I waited. Finally after about 2-3 minutes, I walked over to the one woman who was not behind the cutting counter. I asked her about faux fur fabric. All of the faux fur was on the top shelf closest to the ceiling, and she was more than taken aback because she needed a stepstool to reach what I wanted to purchase. It wasn’t my fault that Winmil has that particular fabric on shelves that customers cannot reach. After finding what I wanted at a cost of $16.99 per yard, she asked me how much I needed. I asked for 3/4 of a yard. She told me that she needed to measure the piece and if there “weren’t enough on the bolt,” she would not sell me what I wanted. Sure enough, the piece was 1 3/4" yards, and she refused to cut it. If the fabric on the bolt could not be cut, why wasn’t it with the remnants? She told me it was all or nothing. I opted for nothing.
I will never go back to Winmil Fabric again.
Love this place!.
A few years back I stumbled upon this place and I've been hooked ever since. It's not always consistent in terms of stock, but I inevitably find something cool everytime I go. The staff knows sewing and is fantastic about helping customers come up with ideas and work-arounds.
As for the reviewer who complained about having t'o show ID... it's store policy. Pay with a credit card and they ask for ID. I'm a white girl and I've been in the place more times than I can count; they still ask for my ID if I hand them a credit card. They do it across the board, making it equitable and certainly no reason to get your knockers in a knot.
Bonus for cat lovers... The store is home to an adorably lazy feline who lounges around on the flat folds all day. Gotta love that!
If I was a white person, I will give this shop 5 stars.
I've been there few times, the shops is nice and the fabric is affordable.
There are 2 people works there, one of them asked me for my ID, which I've never saw her do it to other people. I was of course very offended. If you are white, you will recommend this, but I'm not and only reason I go there is just not too many shops carry so many fabrics, notions.
P.S. One other person is very nice, I will try go to her from now on..
Great place!. All the employees I've met at the store are extremely useful with suggestions. The prices arent bad and the clearance section is wonderful. There are also used patterns.
Chince in Chinatown. Some great bargains and friendly staff (but don't ask for too many samples!) This is a good bet for central boston/chinatown
