Everything Other Boston Restaurants Are Not.
I just finished reading over some of the reviews posted by other users and frankly, I'm shocked. This is my absolute favorite restaurant. I've eaten here over 10 times in the past 2 years and every single time I am blown away. There is no pretention--the staff is always professional and seem actually happy to be working there. I don't get that from other restaurants at all. I've done the wine tastings several times and not only is it better than Sel de la Terre (by a long shot), but the last review posted was ridiculous. $30 for a wine tasting (they give you 4 high-end wines) plus paired food is very competitive when you look elsewhere in the city. I've tried--
The food is always on the mark-great fish, great pate, excellent steak frites and the wine list is the best in value in the city.
Granted, these are all just my opinion, but when I read some of the other postings, it just makes me realize how many dumb people live in this city--
Keep rockin' Les Zyg!!!
A waste of a Tuesday night (actually any night)!. Granted there is not much else going on Tues nights;but truthfully anything(Taxes, working,to ANYTHING) would have been better than my experience at Les Zygomates(french for the muscle that makes you smile).I went to Les Zygs' Tuesday night wine tasting w/ much anticipation. They were pouring Riesling. The tasting was to begin @7.It started@7:50.No one bothered with an explanation or anything to eat. Finally the Les Zyg rep. starts the tasting.I guess my assumption that the individual was going to have knowledge of Riesling was idealistic. The man?s fortes:Italian wine&rambling about nothing.I heard more about his Bolognese w/ Barbera then about Riesling.I can understand why he stayed clear from the topic at hand. The wine was terrible=bland. Riesling is supposed to explode w/tropical fruit while inticing you w/ its? acidity.Yes, it can be that good. The wine that was poured-not so much. You would think that if you are spending $30 for a wine tasting(pours=1 sip)you would be able to get:A)good wineB) wine education and/or C)good food. Apparently Les Zyg does not live by that philosophy. The funny thing is that many wine stores offer FREE wine tastings that are much better. So, I had resigned that this was the worst wine tasting event I had ever been to.I hoped for something to alleviate my hunger.Finally(8:45pm),the chef came in & proceeded to do a cooking demo.Would have been nice if it started 1 hr ago!Despite my jaded opinion,I thought the chef could redeem some of the evening.Silly rabbit.15 minutes later, we received was 1 oyster (size=quarter). My party walked out.Unfortunately,we were starving(our car was w/ valet)thus we unwisely chose to eat dinner at Les Zyg.I am @a loss as to why I cont'd to punish myself. We ordered a bottle of wine. It took the staff 25mins to find it.The food was mediocre considering the $.The evening = $100+.Maybe the restaurant should consider changing its? name to ?Les Depressor Anguli Oris??the muscle known for making you frown.
Rude service. It's not just the insipid rabbit entree or the waitress that leaves the table before everyone has ordered their drinks. When it comes time to pay the bill, make sure you carry cash if it's a big party. When we tried to use more than 3 credit cards to pay, the manager refused. When we insisted, forget about the customer is always right, she mentioned that she was the manager and that we were being unreasonable. When we did not back down, she actually took out slips of paper where everyone had to write down exactly how much they wanted to go on each credit card.
Not that impressed by all the hype.
I went with my GF to Les Z's on a weds nite after a nice evening at the pops hoping to end the nite with
a great meal. Well here is my impressions:
Atmosphere: 8 of 10 - Upscale Casual cool - great place to go out for a nice meal and be seen doing it
Music: 7of 10 - Nice Jazz band playing just loud enough to be cool
Cleanliness 9 of 10 - very clean except for the dirty wine glass, but we were offered a free bottle for our trouble.;)
Wine: 9 of 10 - The wine selection and quality was outstanding for an establishment this size.
Food: 5-6 of 10 Honestly I was dissapointed with the food served, although everything was fresh and hot, it just seems that the chef did not put much of any effort into seasoing the mussels with saffron & wine as the menu indicated. Nor was the baked camembert much too brag about. Being a french bistro I was hoping to find a nice Steak Tartar, boulibasse stew, or some other traditional french cusine, but I could not find it here. I
Service: 5 of 10 - due to the fact that the waiter and waitress kept interrupting throughout the evening to tell us about a special, ask about the food, etc, etc, This place needs better trained waitstaff if they expect to have me become a loyal customer
Great food, great wines, fun place!. The best part about this place are the wine tastings done weekly. The food is also great, as is the atmosphere.
Solid Parisian bistro food, cozy and unpretentious atmosphere. My boyfriend and I were there on Saturday night at around 8-- looking to treat ourselves after a week of hard work. It was a good decision! I have lived in Paris before, so I am always looking for a place that captures the atmosphere of a parisian bistro-- and les zyg did this extremely well. There were couples and larger parties-- dressed anywhere from jeans and sneakers to diane von fustenburg wrap dresses. The layout was intimate and candle-lit. The band started playing at around 9pm. Our food came out very promptly and was delicious--- the steak frites came out moist and delicious. The red snapper was also wonderful. Our waitress was very attentive and throughout the night, my glass of water got promptly filled about 8 times. Great atmosphere for a treat and good food, when one is not looking to get too dressed up and do the whole see-and-be-seen thing.
Valentine dinner. This was my first time at Les Zygomates. Me and my husband went there for valentines, it was wonderfull. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks, the service, the music,. Specially the music, the reason I say that is because my husband is also a musician and he loved the band, so did I. Everything went just great, the staff is amazing, very friendly. The chef also did a great job on the food. We had a wonderfull evening. I highly recommended to try it, because the money you will spend, is way worth it.
Ok, I guess.... I thought this was a great bistro....but my experience was about average. I went there with two frineds about two weeks ago, and had some food and wine. They were all good. I am not too sure if the staff was well-trained in wine as they should be, because two waiters gave us "completely" different reviews on the same wine. We weren't wine experts (which was why we were asking a lot to receive advice), so we got more confused and just ordered something else. Food was great. Myabe I will return for a better experience next time. Over all, very nice!
You can't Go Wrong With Les Zyg. In a city filled with excellent french restaurants, Les Zygomates definitely stands out as the only one with excellent food, a superb wine list, great service, but most of all a comfortable, casual, fun environment. If you are looking for a wine steward with white gloves and a 3-piece suit or have high-blood pressure, Les Zyg is not for you, but otherwise I highly recommend checking it out. The floor staff are attentive without being overbearing, the bartenders are personable and knowledgeable, the Maitre D and hostess couldn't be nicer, and the music just caps it all off. I am fairly sensitive to salt and usually ask the chef to go easy with it, but other than that there's not much I would change. Cheers to Les Zygomates and it's staff!
Worst Service. We sat at the table for over 20 minutes without even ordering drinks etc. Once we ordered we waited over 45 minutes to see three other tables who arrived at the same time get their appetizers & then meals while I still never even got my soup. The other tables finished their meals before we even got ours so we walked out never to return. It is a shame to have such poor service for the cost of the entrees.
