Rounding up the tax on the bill?. Had lunch here recently. Good food, good service...no complaints there. When the bill came the total for food/drink was $11.00. Tax was $.77. Total on the bill was $11.80. While I don't care about 3 cents, I do care that, when brought to the server's attention, I was informed that "oh, the machine automatically rounds up". Really? I'm not sure it's illegal, but it's certainly unethical. I'm sure I don't need to eat there again if I'm going to be cheated. I'm also pretty sure that extra 3 cents is not going to the Commonwealth or the City.

for lack of ANOTHER choice.... too bad i wasn't intoxicated enough to not be able to tell the difference. went there only bcoz that's like the only place on the planet that's open at wee hours (sad thing is, we drove all the way into the city to find only this place open).

wasn't too satisfied w/the whole experience: from greasy table to lack of service to sloppy food... well, i guess there's always a trade-off.

Food is good and cheap, atmosphere sub-par. Great breakfast food, flavors and taste of all-American diner food is right on. However, some may be turned off by the run-down space and dirtiness. Great for late night eats.

Good Cuban, OK service. The cubans are good here. Service is eh. Other food is okay, I've been here a few times and never had the horrible expiriences some of the reviewers have had but I've never had an amazing expirience here either. If you're looking for a good diner expirience try victorias in south boston.

I'm surprised this place is still open!. I question the people who rated this place so highly. Where you paying attention??

I decided to visit the Diner one morning with a friend, hoping to get what some might call a 50's diner experience. It was far from that. I ordered a sprite and my friend water. After a few sips, I noticed several floaties in my soft drink. When I turned my cup around, there were remnants of crusted chocolate milk inside my cup. When I asked for another, it was no better. I recieved flat watered down sprite. There were floaties in my friend's water as well.

To my regret, I ended up ordering a simple burger and fries, but didn't get through half of it. I began to question the quality of my food and the nature in which it was prepared. It was easy to observe that cleanliness was not a priority for this establishment. Flies were sworming all over the place and I could only imagine what was roaming in the kitchen. Our waiter totally ignored us and when he did approach us he was extremely rude and careless, tossing our dishes on the table as if they were dice.

My friend became sick later that day. I threw up for most of the day, wishing I made breakfast at home or had the nerve to just get up and leave when I sensed things weren't right. No matter how hungry or desperate I get in the near or distant future - late night or daytime - I am certain that I will never visit this establishment again. I'm curious to know how they pass state health expections each year.

Please, somebody else back me up on this.

This relic of the 1950s diner era is one of Boston's greasiest spoons.. The Scene
Outside, beneath the giant coffee cup that serves as the diner's landmark, customers people-watch while sipping coffee and frappes on wooden benches. Inside, kitschy elements dominate: Black cardboard music notes, plastic records and blow-up guitars dangle from the ceiling, while Marilyn Monroe shades cover the table lamps and James Dean poses in black and white overhead. Punkish, somber servers stand in stark contrast to the cheery 1950s theme.

The Food
By diner standards, the menu is small, and leans toward the lower end. Anything served with butter or made with grease--from toast to thick half-pound burgers--comes drenched in it, except hash browns, which are oddly dry. Sandwiches are served with a generous stack of meat. "From the '50s" options like extra-thick frappes, milk shakes and root beer floats are popular with regulars. Beer, coffee and breakfast served 24 hours on weekends make this a good post-bar hangout for pub crawlers.
