Editorial Review for Macy's – by Lauren McCutcheon

The Scene
In 1857, R.H. Macy opened his eponymous dry goods store in New York City. The tally of his first day's receipts: $11.06. These days, under the aegis of Federated Department stores, Macy's anchors malls coast to coast, tallying millions in yearly sales.

The Goods
Macy's is every shopper's department store, located along the retail spectrum between Sears and Nordstrom. Crowded displays boast second-tier labels: Lauren and Polo by Ralph Lauren, Reaction by Kenneth Cole, Allen by ABS. The shoe department features many upscale selections: Via Spiga, DKNY and Martinez Valero for the ladies and Cole Haan, Skechers and basic Bass loafers for the fellas. Otherwise, rely on staples: Wamsutta sheets, Royal Velvet towels, Clinique cosmetics, Gold-Toe socks and Carter's for kids.

I go after work around 7 or 8 and love how there is never anyone there. I just hate shopping with tons of people and people hitting me with their bags. Macy's has my favorite brands, DKNY, CK, Ralph Lauren and sometimes they have decent sales. It's true there are never any salespeople around though. It's hard to find anyone to help you, but not having to deal with tons of other shoppers makes it worth it.

Pros: deserted!, quality brands

Cons: no salespeople

The store is set up like a discount second hand store with clothes on the floor and other signs of utter chaos. The customer service is non existent. I asked for a price check on something and she said that wasnt her department even though she was the only sales girl on the floor. I know she could have scanned the item. When trying on clothes, I had to wait 15 minutes outside the dressing room even though no one was in it. THE RUDEST SALESWOMAN gave no explanation. This is why bostonians get a bad name!

Pros: some value

Cons: , Cleanliness, RUDE
