Strong drinks and bangin chowder.
I work VERY close to the Sail Loft so I have been here a bunch of times for a couple of drinks and sometimes food. Whenever I go here I always go with a few people I know, who also know the bartenders there. They treat us well. We will leave it at that.
But I am mainly writing this because of some food I got here. I got the Rueban Sandwhich. It was off the chain man. I loved every second I was eating it. I wouldn't have expected a great sandwhich to come from here but it did. The meat wasn't dry and crusty like some places and everything else was just right. The fries if I remember were also very good. The chowder is filled with dill and it is bangin!
Back to the drinks. They are always strong. Noice!
One of my favorites!. I love the Sail Loft. I have been going for years and my friends and I always have a great time. It is an oddly shaped place, long and narrow, and often very packed, but it brings together a lot of characters from all walks of life. It is located directly on the waterfront, so if you go outside on the deck you are looking out onto the water. The bathrooms are small and pretty gross, actually, but it sort of goes with the whole ambience (almost like being on a boat, really!) The bar, in general, isn't the fanciest, but everyone feels welcome. If you want a table, you have to get there early because it gets packed.
Good and honest food..
I went there on my first day in the city, during the Labor Day. The streets were full of people enjoying a great sunny day. All the restaurants were crowded so I went wandering until I came across Boston Sail Loft, a very cozy and friendly restaurant. The wooden walls and the Boston waterfront view captured my attention so I entered.
I asked for a deep-fried shrimp, lobster with mussels and some beers. The generous portion of shrimp were perfectly seasoned. The lobster was very fresh and came to the table producing a delicious sea aroma.
Nice and professional service. Honest price.
Fun place to hang out for drinks with friends. Good clam chowder.
Their clam chowder is right up there with Legal Seafoods in my opinion. Big chunks of potato. Drinks are cheap there and the nachos are good as well. Big enough to feed 4 people.
Registers are old school. Nice to see a restaurant stick to its old roots.
Bouncer's ruined it!. The bar itself is cool, but the bouncers are jerks. I liked the bar a lot until the bouncers came and treated us awful, I would never go there again, I've never been treated like that anywhere.
Plentiful and inexpensive seafood dishes make this waterfront hangout a local institution..
The Scene
In a city known for its seafood, the Sail Loft deserves special mention, having satisfied its loyal clientele with steamed lobsters and broiled scrod for over 20 years. A low-key bar sits between nautical-themed dining areas. Friendly waitresses dispose of lobster carcasses with a smile.
The Food
Basic seafood--prepared broiled, fried or steamed--comes in healthy portions that won't break the bank. Looking beyond crowd favorites like fresh fish and chips or steamed lobster (served with mussels or a salad), curious diners consult the sheet of daily specials (try the lemon pepper swordfish steak when available). Land lovers, who somehow pass on the thick, homemade clam chowder, can choose from a lengthy list of gargantuan salads and sandwiches. Leave room for a slice of sinful Boston cream pie for dessert.
Fabulous chowder.. I have been going to the Sail Loft for a few years and have never been disappointed in the food. Everything is extremely fresh, like it just came off the boat. The clam chowder is out of this world; I have been trying to find the "perfect" clam chowder and this is definitely it! There's a good after work scene, but the bar can get very crowded since it's tiny in there. In place of snack mix at the bar, they have Oreo cookies, which are great for dessert! The waitstaff is very nice and very quick to take your order.
just a good time. I actually go to the Sail Loft a lot. Great food at an average price. I mostly get Apps (Wings, nachos, fried shrimp) and they are always awsome. the bar scene is good in the summer every night and in the winter during the weekends. It was nice to find a bar where didn't cost me $25 for two beers and a rum and coke. Everyone just seemed interested in having a good time.
get's very busy and rude waitresses. the food was pretty good compared to the price. get's crowded and loud during the weekend nights. i went with my friends for a friend's birthday dinner and the waitress was very rude, overcharging us by $30 and then didn't even wait for me to finish talking before wisking away the bill and being very rude. i wouldn't recommend this place again, try someone else with the view of the waterfront.
Great Food, Great Value.
The clam chowder was the best we've ever had. Everyone in my party (6 adults & 2 children) enjoyed the dinner very much. "Even the salad was great" said my in-law. And, the kid's meal was way better than the SkipJack's. The service was friendly as well. Excellent value indeed.
The place is not big, so reservation is recommended for a large group.
