Editorial Review for Coogan's Bluff Restaurant – by Leah Gourley
The Scene
With rows of rustic picnic tables, high-backed booths, exposed brick and a fireplace, it's easier to imagine having a burger at Coogan's than a dance party, but both occur. During daylight hours, the pub is comfortable and serves as an after-work watering hole for Financial District suits. Once night falls, Coogan's split personality is evident by the throngs of collegiate revelers who proceed to dance the night away.
The Draw
Although you can dine on a sizable menu ranging from burgers to fancier pasta dishes (jumbo shrimp scampi) during the day, the weekend scene is when it really heats up at Coogan's. Thursday to Saturday nights, DJs prevail over the dance floor with top 40 and hip hop favorites. A thriving boy-meets-girl scene is accelerated by the close proximity of so many sweaty gyrating bodies. The bartenders just as often serve one of the 20 draught beers as they do a round of shots.

I went to this place last night with some of my girlfriends and there is a bartender there with braces and she is terrible. she picks and chooses who she wants to serve first, has people waiting after they have already ordered their drink and ignores them, gives attitude and yells at people to wait a minute if you ask for a drink, gets in your face and yells as well. I don't know why this girl is a bartender because you're suppose to have patience and be nice for that tip and have people coming back for more. terrible terrible service!
Pros: you can join the dancefloor over to the side or be a part of the bar scene
Cons: the bartender with braces

I work near there, so my coworkers and I often go there for lunch on Fridays. Note that this review doesn't apply to dinner and weekends, when the scene is different altogether. The food is good and well-priced for downtown - $10 lobster roll special is always great (real chunks of lobster meat, very light mayo), and so are the burgers, salads, and sandwiches($7 to $8). Service is friendly and professional, and nicely starched white tablecloths are a plus. The clients are mostly corporate/downtown professionals and some tourists during the day. A safe bet for weekday lunch.
Pros: Food, service, tablecloth
Cons: Downtown prices
