In Short – Downstairs features a small stage with musicians playing cover tunes seven nights a week, while upstairs resides a small dance club with exposed brick and benches. The night starts with hip-hop and moves quickly into top-40. Expect Sissy's to be crowded enough to give you a good chance of making conversation with a stranger. Cheap drinks make this a favorite of large groups and bachelorette parties.

Had a great time

by chrissyS

I'm from Montreal and was in town for the Habs game. (we won!!) The Saturday night we went to this bar and had a great time. Seeing that we are from montreal we know how to party, and the bars are great in montreal, and this bar was really fun. Everyone was really nice. The bar is small, but it didnt really matter.

Just Awful

There was a five-dollar cover on a Saturday night. Now, usually a cover means your either getting cheap drink inside, a good scene, or good live music. Instead, patrons on the bottom floor are accosted by the sounds of a bad guitarist screeching cover songs into a microphone at a far too high volume. I would characterize the crowd as stereotypical college: state school frat boy types in ?club wear? and urban street clothes, and girls in tacky and revealing outfits. The scene was rowdy and full of people looking for short-term companionship. Overall it was a very collegiate atmosphere. They also hold your ID for ransom if you open a tab, which is something I've never encountered before and just compounded the issues here.

I could forgive all this however, if it were not for the place?s worst offense. Decent beer costs six dollars each. For all that, they don?t even serve proper pints, but rather pathetically small servings in dinky plastic cups. Now I can understand paying that much for something obscure, exotic, and with a high abv, but six dollars for two-thirds of a pint of Bass? Seriously?

I?d suggest avoiding this establishment at all costs.

  • Pros: Young Crowd?
  • Cons: Everything else.

best deal in town

Sissy k's is a small club, both floors hold under 200 people combined, due to the horse and carriages being parked outside it can smell sometimes like livestock. and the "it's my 21st birthday" vomitting contest is inevitable. I've only been on the weekends so I can't attest to the 40 yr old karaoke singers.. But if you get there before 9pm you won't pay a cover, you have a good chance of getting a table, you'll get at least a couple hours of the $1.50 bud or bud lite, after 10pm cheaper appetizers. There's a guitarist on the first floor and dj on second. The bar is frequented with a mixture of bachelorette parties, birthday parties, tourist and college kids. The crowd gets younger as the nite progresses, and the upstairs crowd is different than downstairs, for lack of better description upstairs is a little cheesier downstairs is more chill. It gets very busy almost always at capacity after 9:30 (but isn't that why you go into Boston) The line gets long and the cover increases as the night goes on... if you like to go to an empty place, drink inexpensive mixed drinks, not wait in line, not be entertained by musicians or people watching, the place for you is your house. People sometimes go to bars to meet other people, Heavens forbid someone actually tries to pick you up in a bar.

  • Pros: valueif early, live entertainment and dj, location
  • Cons: because of younger crowd some test their alcohol limits,
