Great food and fun atmosphere, it was good to be back – I had lunch at Durgin Park (on a Saturday) for the first time in about 10 years or more. My daughter and I had Yankee --- roast and I wasn't disappointed. It was delicious and the service was fast and friendly. There was ice water and corn bread on the table a minute after we were seated and the food came fast too. I can't wait to go back.
worst food and service and food in boston – I think it is the worst place in Boston. From food to service, nothing is good. after ordering our food, waiter makes a remark ,"Are you guys serious; that's it." THis remark was not at all in a funny or joking way. But we still thought that food should be good and it was the same like the service. My chicken was cold and beer was warm, almost came after 25 min. on a monday night (slowest day of the week).

A Boston benchmark since 1827, Durgin Park sits prominently in the heart of Quincy Market, where it caters to an astounding volume of out-of-towners. The restaurant keeps wait times short by seating smaller parties at long, communal tables (prepare to share the ketchup with neighboring patrons). Press clippings from the past half-century line the walls (most are still relevant; the menu remains unchanged). Harried waitresses exude patience while explaining old-time menu items like Indian pudding.
From the dense squares of cornbread that begin every meal to the hulking cuts of prime rib that hang over the plate, stick-to-your-ribs fare is the name of the game. Entrees like broiled lamb chops and flaky baked scrod come with a choice of potato (whipped mashed potatoes or meaty steak fries) and vegetable of the day. Boston baked beans, famously redolent of molasses, are a must-try. Desserts include strawberry shortcake.
Unique ambiance, great food, best service ever! – Durgin Park more than lives up to it's reputation. It's a fun place to go, to mingle with folks from all over, while you enjoy generous portions of the highest quality New England foods. A trip to Boston is not a trip to Boston unless you have at least one meal at this wonderful restaurant.
I do not know what all the fess was about! – My wife and I had lunch recently during our trip to Boston. This was a highly recommend restaurant from a number of national sources, however we do not understand why!
We did like to atmosphere but after that we were highly disappointed. The server was just OK, the food was poor, the portion sizes were small, and the prices were high.
I had the baked scrod, a specialty of theirs, and it was below average. The baked beans were flavorless and undercooked.
My wife had the chicken potpie, which came with canned gravy and canned corn. Really not what we expected.
Horrible, absolutely horrible – I had their "famous" prime rib -- which must be know for its lack of flavor. I left 75% of it on the plate. My wife had fish and chips, which was "blah" -- completely without flavor. The baked beans were bland at best.
My mom had shrip -- which was mediocre, but at least wasn't horrible like my prime rib. And my daughter had spaghetti, which tasted like little more that tomato sauce.
This place was bland at its best, and downright horrible at its worst. And given the cost, you'd be better off eating at one of the vendors at Quincy Market. The meal was so bad, and we ate so little, that we grabbed some dessert in Quincy Market because we were still hungry.
Seriously, we had them wrap up our generous leftovers (mostly because it was so horrible) and we gave it to a homeless person.
Been there, done that, glad it's over – As a frequent visitor to Boston we try to make all the "places to go" and for the most part they have lived up to their billing. Not so Durgin Park. My wife and myself both ordered the pot pie, hard to screw up a pot pie right?, mostly because we love a good pot pie mostly because we don't eat red meat and that kinda blew out the Durgin's so called famous pot roast. If I had not actually seen the pot pie in my plate I would not have known what I was eating because there was no taste what's so ever, none, zip, zero, nada. Because we were hungry we didn't even finish, just paid and left so we could find somewhere else to eat. Quick seating, go mid afternoon, on one there, maybe because the food sucks?
tourist trap with horrible food – durgin park is a tourist trap complete with long picnic tables w/ gross plastic red/white tablecloths. the service is unfriendly and the food is bland. the indian pudding is a flavorless mass of cornmeal and molasses. don't come here!
Great New England Food!! – We heard so much about Durgin Park we just had to go. I had the best Yankee Pot Roast(excluding my own,of course) I ever had. A true Patriots meal! We didn't wait long at all to be seated and the staff was very nice. The ambience was simple and clean. We were waited on right away with a cube of their famous cornbread in hand. Our food came quick and hot. The pot roast was tender and the baked beans were the best of Boston. I had Indian Pudding for the first time, yummy. Like I said Great New England food! Our waitress was so nice we gave her a big tip,well deserved,especially after watching her work so hard to make sure we were comfortable. We are definitley going back and we will recommend anyone to go there.They won't regret it!
So I tried fish. – I havent eaten fish in something like ten years, mostly because fresh fish in Chicago is hard to come by at a decent price. I stopped at Durgin Park with my wife and two year old and it was very comfortable. I didnt order fish since Im not used to doing so, but I did try my wifes haddock which was really good and I would probably order it if Im ever in Boston again. I dont know if this is a tourist trap or not since I was a tourist in Boston, I just know I was satisfied with everything.
