Had enough of crowded beaches and congested bike trails? AMC, the region's largest recreation and conservation club, will take you to the most pristine, exciting places in New England. Members receive discounts at AMC-operated huts, lodges and camps, as well as a subscription to AMC Outdoors, the club's monthly magazine. Members are also eligible for free affiliation with one of the club's 11 regional chapters.
The Appeal
AMC is the region's largest recreation and conservation club. It distributes the best trail guides, maps, nature hike books and, of course, the White Mountain Guide, which is the New Hampshire climber's bible. But you can go it alone and still take advantage of the AMC-operated huts, lodges or camps. Stay above the tree line, but sleep in a hut with morning and evening meals provided.

Know Before You Go:
Chapter-run outings include family cross-country skiing trips in the winter, coed volleyball in the summer and more bike, canoe and white-water activities than you can shake a walking stick at.
The Extras:
There are outdoor adventure workshops, ranging from guided trips to training in outdoor skills like rock climbing, orienteering and avalanche rescue techniques.
