“The decor is very warm & inviting with its red leather booths and wood seating at the bar area.”
“The food isn't fancy, but you'll get generous portions of delicious homey concoctions like Shepherd's pie, steak tips, calamari, etc. at extremely reasonable prices -- which is why I think it makes for a better than average place for lunch or a great plac”
“got a beer, and we enjoyed an excellent meal.”
“From amazing cold lomein noodles, delicious chicken wings, the best mac and cheese in all of Boston, and a grilled cheese that rivals the one served at Delux Cafe (another one of my faves in the South End), you can't go wrong if you can get a table.”
“Great service, great food, great atmosphere, until I read the back of the menu.”
“Whether you're just out for drinks or want some really great food, this is the place.”
“great mac 'n cheese (which I didn't taste - I visually filled up on cottage cheese from the lady holding her shirt open and gyrating for the bartender's flashlight) doesn't negate that this establishment hires people who feel comfortable tossing out the”
“am a huge chicken fan and felt that it was slightly over cooked.”
wings and mac & cheese. The best wings and best mac & cheese that I have ever hada. The buffalo wings have this sauce that when they bring over the plate if you take a quick whiff it will make you gasp a little but in a very good way. Really really great! Mac & Cheese can't be beat just perfection
food as good looking as the waiter. I know exactly what I want when I arrive at silvertones…meat, mashed potatoes, fresh salad, lots of wine, and the fantastic waiter with black framed glasses. I usually go here with my lady friends so we can unwind and recharge for the weekend. We haven’t had to wait long for a table and once an order is in it arrives promptly. The booths have tall backs, which create some privacy for impolite conversations or snuggling with your honeybun, but like I said…I come here with my lady friends. Bottles of wine are affordable and delicious. I also recommend the macaroni and cheese.
Underrated. I used to come to Silvertone's all the time when I lived in Beacon Hill. It's a little hard to find at first, since it's in the basement. When you do discover it, you realize how much you like the cocktails and the food. It's not fancy but consistent and a good way to get something in your stomach especially when you are bar hopping on a weekend or even after work. Location cant be beat. My only complaint is that it can and does get quite loud and the waitstaff are ofter stretched thin when they get full. Which is often!
Comfort food and smart drinks make this spot shine. Don't let the renovated basement vibe at Silvertone fool you, this is one Boston spot that can't be missed. This isn't the kind of restaurant where you need your iPhone to decipher ingredients: the menu boasts a super creamy mac and cheese, a roast chicken better than your mom's, and steak tips that garnered awards from local pubs for the last umpteen years. It's crowded and a little cramped, but the food and cocktails are totally worth rubbing elbows with your new neighbors. The wine list starts at just $6, and many bottles have very little mark up over retail.
Great Drinks, Cool Atmosphere. I have become a regular at Silvertone. As someone who works in downtown Boston, I am always looking for a good lunch spot. Their food is delicious, affordable, and they have a great bar selection. Service is spot-on and consistent, and it is fun whether you go on a weekday for lunch, or on a Saturday night for drinks with friends.
Great Food: Cheap Prices. Silvertone is a great place to eat if looking for good prices. Drinks are very affordable as well. The third time I went in, the bartenders knew my name and drink of choice. Very cool place in the financial district.
Good Prices. This place is a good after work date place. The prices are good for comfort food, although I would say the the menu is pretty small. The ambiance is nice. There is usually a long wait for a table on a Thur. or Fri. night.
It's Okay........ The place is Under Ground - Hence, no windows. Typical Pub Fare, Dark. Service is okay. Prices are good. Locate is okay, Downtown but not in the most "happening" area of downtown Boston. Close to the "T".
Techno Music Restaurant AAAA OK!!. I thought the place was So So. Very small (bathroom is the size of a refrigerator), very dark, long wait to be seated and very crowded on a thursday night. Definitly NOT the place to go in party more then 4. Some what difficult to get a drink order when the bar area is jam packed with thirsty happy hour goers and people dining at the bar. The service was nothing to brag or write home about. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with fries and a salad. I am a huge chicken fan and felt that it was slightly over cooked. Waaay to much work for a meesly peice of chicken. The 2 best qualities are the speed in which they deliver there food and the slightly below average prices. Will I go again? Depends what friend will drag me there, but possibly for a beer!!!
