A hidden treasure. It is on a side street close to the Park Street T station but somehow few know about it. We are always introducing it to friends and everytime they are thanking us. Make the effort to seek it out. It is really worth the trip. There is the upstairs dining room and the bar at street level. Either location provides a mild setting for a delicious meal. My partner and I frequent this place often. It is very consistent as far as the quality of the food. The cocktails are wonderful. My favorites are the Tres Curieux, Great Experiment and the Henry Marliave. The burger & fries are tasty. I have had a wonderful arugula salad with lemon vinagrette & proscuitto (which is not on the current menu). The last time I was there I had a succulent pan roasted chicken with risotto and mushrooms. The service is usually pretty good and friendly. The last time we had a table of 12 and it was the waiter's first night. Somehow he managed to remember all of our drink orders without writing anything down. A feat in itself because it was a thirsty group.
The Marliave -- Lunch or Dinner?. Went for lunch today for Restaurant Week during my work day. The food was fantastic but the service was atrocious. The waitress didn't seem to care when we asked about the status of our entree after waiting one hour for it. She just replied that the kitchen was slow. So, if you want a leisurely dinner, perfect; if out for lunch from work, not suitable (we asked for our desserts to go when our entrees were finally served!). Yet, with a location surrounded by workers, you'd think they would realize that we all really need to keep our jobs right now!
Editorial Review. As a graciously restored 1875-era restaurant, Marliave serves among three distinct floors: itty-bitty oyster bar, gastropub food and drink and upscale gourmet dining.
Fantastic from Start to Finish. We spent the Saturday after T-Giving with my parents, in from out of town. From the drinks, apps, entrees, to the service, every step was fantastic. I dreamt of the caviar topped deviled eggs later that night. Rabbit entree was exceptional. Overall fantastic time had by all.
The Marliave. I was excited at the re-opening as this had always been a favorite of mine. Definitly disappointed, service was only fair, drinks were overly sweet ( Cosmos). Main courses were a little better although my Reuben fell apart. I miss the real Italian place. won't be returning.
