Vinnie The Tailor“I've since recommended Vinnie to a friend who needed two suits altered, and he was very pleased with the quality and speed of service.”
Editorial Review. A favorite of Financial District worker bees, this full-service tailor can whip any jacket or pants into shape.
Unhappy customer. I went here on recommendation from Filenes basement to get a suit tailored this winter. Very disappointed. Had to go back 3 times to get it done right. It took over 3 weeks from start to finish. Very expensive to boot.
Horrible place! Do not go!.
I read a few of the reviews and I thought to myself, did they go to the same place?!
Please, let me tell you my story and take from it what you will -
I went to Vinnie's after buying a suite at Filene's Basement - this is a while ago as of this writing (August 14, 2006). I went to Vinnie's at the suggestion of a salesperson. It's very difficult to find, and I thought oh well, I'm sure it's a hidden gem. I was measured fairly promptly - no complaints. After having to wait 3 weeks, I came back to collect my suit only to find it was lost! The tailor had given it to someone else and very arrogantly told me to come back another time so that he could find it. I asked when and he said he didn't know, but to call. After another week he located my suit and to my disappointment, it fit horribly! I didn't get a discount or any apology for it being lost. A horrible experience and a worse fit. Stay away from this place - you won't see me there again!
Vinny is the best! He has fixed other tailor's mistakes and knows how to work with vintage.. I had a vintage dress tailored by someone who works on the weekends. Big mistake. I took it to Vinny and he fixed the mess the other guy had made and now it fits beautifully. Anything you love, take to Vinny.
Old-school Italian tailor.
I went to Vinnie at the recommendation of a friend's father: an Italian immigrant who has worked for decades as Neiman Marcus's in-house men's tailor. He told me Vinnie is an old friend and colleague, who was schooled in Italy in the traditional tailoring arts from the old country, and is possibly the last of a dying breed in Boston.
I took him a pair of pants that had been badly altered by a previous tailor and Vinnie did an excellent job on what seemed a hopeless case. By the time he was done you couldn't tell they had been altered.
I've since recommended Vinnie to a friend who needed two suits altered, and he was very pleased with the quality and speed of service.
Vinnie may not be the cheapest in town, nor the easiest to find, but if you need someone extremely skilled, he's your man.
Excellent fix. I went to a dry cleaner I'd heard had a decent tailor to get a lining put in a skirt. They made it too tight. I couldn't figure out the problem, they couldn't figure out the problem ("it's lined up perfectly with skirt and seams"). I brought it to Vinnie the Tailor, and THEY figured out the problem (only used one piece of fabric, which was almost but not quite big enough, needed two pieces for lining) and fixed it and now it's perfect. Not cheapest tailoring in town, but if they can fix someone else's mysterious problem, that's a good sign.
