Editorial Review for Stony Brook Nature Center – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Start with the self-guided nature trail that swings through meadows, where bluebirds nest, to a hardwood and pine forest. A boardwalk angles off the trail and crosses Teal Marsh, where turtles and great blue herons abound. The site is historic. In pre-colonial times it was a major gathering place for Native Americans. From the 18th century into the 20th century, the waters of Stony Brook powered mills--remains of some which can can still be found on the property.
