“I'm usually one of those people who picks a restaurant because I like one dish: The Fieldston has taught me to be flexible and love it!”
“However, the service was terrible.”
This diamond hopeful fails to sparkle.
The two prior reviews are suspect. They certainly sound a lot like the owner.
We had high hopes for this restaurant. Had heard good things about the food. As it was, we didn't have any complaints about the food besides small portions. However, the service was terrible. One member of our party found 2 small pieces of plastic in their meal and the owner who was cooking in the kitchen refused to come out to address the situation until our 3rd request. When he finally came out he was rude, even making a joke about being glad the person didn't choke. I'm not sure that's something that should be said with a smile. An offer was made for a free dessert but when we declined dessert, no further attempt was made to appease us.
This place would have been a diamond in the rough if it wasn't for the poor service. An empty restaurant on a Saturday night tells me that most other folks are steering clear of this place as well.
The Best The South Shore Has to Offer. From the moment you're greeted at the door by the hostess and get a quick wave from the Chef/Owner in the kitchen, you know you've arrived at a special spot. The prices are fair from the appetizers to dessert and the wine list is one of the best around. In the winter, you can cozy up to the fireplace. In the summer, seabreezes cool diners on the porch and in the dining room. The bar is always filled with regulars who are up for congenial conversation and the bartender keeps everyone smiling. It's also a fun place to reserve for a party or special event. Did I mention the food is absolutely incredible? Oh, and don't miss the clean-out-the-kitchen extravaganza where everything on the menu is $9.95.
Finest gourmet restaurant on the South Shore.... The Fieldston just may be the finest gourmet restaurant on the South Shore if hot the entire Commonweath of Massachusetts. Beware: while the menu changes on the whim of the chef owner, the quality if always top notch. I'm usually one of those people who picks a restaurant because I like one dish: The Fieldston has taught me to be flexible and love it! From grilled salmon with raspberry puree to medium rare venison chop cooked to perfection, the fare is always lively and interesting. That said, for those with more earthly palates there is always a pizza, a pasta and a burger in the offerings. The wine list is limited but amazing and fairly priced. The owner lives upstairs. It doesn't seem to me he's designed his menu to clean out your wallet but to build a small, loyal clientele who will help him pay his bills. If you become one of his patrons, you won't be sorry.
