STAY AWAY from Animed unless you want substandard care and an overdosed pet.

I took my dog here to talk to the vet about his anxiety and was prescribed med to help him be more responsive to the behavior modifications. The vet says that the vet tech will give me 3 weeks of med and the vet tech has to compound the med for me. She tells me to give 5mgs 2x a day, which is also on the bottle, and shows me what line to fill the syringe to. I ask about side effects and am told none- which I find out online is a lie.
I get home and give the 1st dose. But I check out the bottle and it says there are 25mgs of liquid in it, which will not last 3 wks. Because that's not what the vet said, I call them- only to discover that the number on the bottle is wrong. I find the correct one and get a vet tech who, when I explain the issue, says the vet will call me back. 5 hours later, nothing. I call back because I don't want to give another dose without talking to the vet, and she says that the vet will call me 30min, but that the directions for the medication sound fine. The vet never calls. I figure the vet tech is right- this is their job after all, dispensing medication- and give him the evening dose and his next dose in the morning. But I call this morning to check and get a different tech who says that it is supposed to be .5 mg NOT 5. Luckily, his dosage was low enough that 10x it did not cause him to die- but on really any other medication he would have, and god only knows what complications could still arise.
Who wrongly prescribes medication and then doesn't return phone calls? The tech who mixed the 3 wks worth of medicine into the compound printed the label and showed me how much to give, so she should have caught her mistake. Even worse, we've been getting the run around as we try to talk to the vet in person, and the techs just seem to want to cover it up.
My family wants to make sure that no one else run the risk of having their pet harmed by this completely incompetent staff. DO NOT take your animals to Animed!
- Pros: can't think of any
- Cons: might contribute to the death of your dog and will ignore your calls while they do it
One of the most caring vets I have ever met
by MrsMas at Citysearch
Dr. Salter is simply one of the most caring vets I have ever met. I have been bringing one cat there for 13 years, another for 6 years, and another for 5. One of my cats is often vicious towards strangers, and Dr. Salter always knows how to handle her. He is matter of fact, and doesn't mince his words, which I appreciate. I have recommended many people to his practice, and they have all been satisfied. He has saved my cat's life before, and has always been available when needed in an emergency.
His rates are extremely reasonable.
I highly recommend his practice.
- Pros: Parking, Hours, Location, Prices, Compassion for animals
- Cons: Office could use some sprucing up
Great kennel even for a dog who is a 'tough customer'
by CityChick101 at Citysearch
My dog has issues-I adopted him from the pound that way. He's nervous around other dogs and has inexplicable issues with some people (usually innocent ones-like mothers with baby carriages!?).
I boarded him at Animed and from the minute we arrived he was right at home. The vet techs were pleasant and soothing. He immediately went with them and didn't look back. When I returned to pick him up he was a happy camper. I have boarded him in the past-at an expessive 'resort-like' kennel on Cape Cod and he didn't go willingly. When I picked him up from the other kennel, he was thinner and seemed quite anxious.
It was quite a different experience picking him up from Animed. He didn't lunge out the door to leave. He was glad to see us, but waited calmy as I settled paperwork.
- Pros: Local kennel. Conveniently located. Staff were pleasant and professional. Dog was happy.
- Cons: None
