“excellent customer service”
I think these guys have new owners. Our snowblower died after the big storm a couple weeks ago. Had no choice, but to use Canton Power Equipment. All in all i was really happy. They had a 72 hour around. They picked up and dropped off. Staff was very friendly. I would try them out again.
Dubious Service. Deceptive practices. My electric snowblower would not start and I sent it to Canton Power to be fixed. After paying $200 for the repair, I discovered that the electric starter was not in fact working. I spoke to the owner who said that he only agreed to get the machine running and this could be accomplished by pulling the cord. I explained that I am not physically strong enough to accomplish this which is why I needed the electric ignition fixed. He stated that it would cost more than a new machine to do this. Perhaps if he had mentioned this in the first place, I would not be out $200.
Owner Taking Advantage of Customers!!!.
This past winter was pretty bad and there were several storms forecasted for the upcoming week and my snowblower was not working properly so I called Canton Power Equipement. I had spoken with the owner and we arranged for him to pick up the blower behind my home.. He did so. He called me 2 wks later and told me that he had completed the work on my blower and that the bill was $487.88. He had never contacted me before doing the work to explain what the problem was and to give me an estimate to see if I would be satisfied in paying this amount!!!! I asked him why so much money and what he did for it to be so expensive and why he did not contact me before doing the work. He said “I am very busy and don’t have time to chase down customers to get approval for pricing”. I could not believe what I was hearing!!!!! Further more, he stated that he had replaced parts that I had just recently replaced myself, such as the spark plugs. Had he contacted me he would have known this and he should have been able to see that they were new. I still have the reciepts for them. I verbalized my concern with his practice and he was dismissive and said that he would hold my snowblower until he was paid. Since we were expecting more snow and I have alot of land I felt I had no choice but to charge it on my credit card because I needed the snowblower.
I feel like he took advantage of me knowing that I have an expensive snowblower and that this winter has been pretty rough. I am sure he has taken advantage of many others. Don't deal with this crook! If only I had seen these reviews before :( I have filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau. We'll see what happens.
Don't use this bussiness.
Before summer I brought my lawnmower to Canton Power Equipment Company for tune-up, service and replacing the blade. The owner said to me, that it will cost 150-160 dollar and it will be ready in week, next Saturday.
Next Saturday somebody from Canton Power Equipment Company called to my home and said that my lawnmower is ready for pick up. I came to the office, they charged me 173.78 dollar. I checked the bill’s description and I saw they did all service and they ran and tested my lawnmower, so I paid this bill by VISA credit card.
When I came home and began to work it started to smoke. I stopped and called to the Canton Power Equipment company and explain the problem. They told me, that because the lawnmower just after service, so smoke will disappear after 5-10 minutes of work. But the smoke did not disappear after 10 and 15 and 20 minutes…. It became stronger and I saw the reason – the oil was leaking. I stopped and called to the Canton Power Equipment company again, I talked to the owner by phone. He told me bring your lawnmower back to the shop and we will take a look. I explain to him, I can’t put it in the car because it is in the oil and very dirty and I suggested them to pick it up themselves, but the owner did not listen to me. He just answered, as a robot – wipe it, cleaned it and bring it to the shop. I just paid 174 dollars for service and now I have dirty (in the oil) the lawnmower and I have to wipe it, clean it, and ask for leaving my work earlier for bringing it back to the shop. I this case I told him, it will be easy for me just stop the payment. He asked me don’t do that and leave the lawnmower on the driveway and they will pick it up on the next day. I left it on my driveway and they picked it up for fixing.
Saturday. May 9, when I came the lawnmower was clean and I put it in the car. At home, when I started to work I noticed that the same problem still exists – oil was leaking and engine was smoking. I stopped to work and in the few minutes all oil was out of tank. I called to the owner and said I did not satisfy this service. I warned him, that I will call to Credit Card Company and will stop the payment. In the same day, I called to the CITY credit card and ask to stop payment to Canton Power Equipment Company, because I don’t satisfy its service.
Few days’ later CITY credit card company has asked me to find another business that provides similar services and ask them to indicate how the work performed by the original merchant was incorrect.
I have found small company with the similar service and this is its conclusion:
‘Job description – ‘Changed oil’ – performed incorrect.
When they changed the oil, they poured it in 2-3 times more then normal level. That is why the fresh oil was come out from the exhaust manifold and because manifold was loosed, the oil was spread on the cylinder’s ribs on the surface of the engine, burned and smoked. After of draining part of oil and bringing its level back to normal, the lawnmower started to work relatively well. The oil was not leaking, it continues to smoke a little bit, but it will take some time, until all oil will be burned out from the parts of the engine and smoking will be stopped
Job description – ‘Ran + Tested’ – performed incorrect.
If they really did this, they had to notice leaking oil and smoking engine.’
So Credit Company took my side and I didn’t pay anything for this ‘service’
The owner of Canton Power Equipment told me, he is running this family business for 30 years and he knows everything and I don’t understand anything. But 30 years in business doesn’t mean that you cannot make a mistake He should pay attention to quality control since he is responsible for everything in his shop, because he is the owner, And if something happened, like in my case, first of all you don’t have to be rude to people, using that you are for 30 years in this business as an excuse for poor service.
Unnecessary Repair.
After the summer, I forgot how to start my snow blower, and additionally I could not find my manual.
I pretty much came to Canton Power Equipment on 01/08/11 so that they could show me how to start my snow blower. The owner came outside of the store when I got there at 9:00 AM (the store was empty at the time), and when I explained to him that I can’t start my snow blower because I lost my manual, he forced me to leave my snow blower there. I never told him that the snow blower was broken, I simply told him I couldn’t start it. They never called me and asked me whether it was ok for them to go ahead with doing work on it. A few hours later they called me and told me it was ready to be picked up, and when I asked him if there was a charge he told me it would be $143.21.
My wife got there to pick it up because it was on her way. The same man who served me in the morning did not express any desire to help my wife to load it into the trunk. When she asked for help he grabbed the light handle and forced a 53 year old woman to lift the heavy part while a bunch of young employees were in the store (and none of them offered to help her). When the snow blower was home, I still couldn’t start it, and the store was already closed. Obviously there was no difference before or after repair.
The next day, Sunday, I went to my neighbor and he showed me what I was doing wrong (I didn’t move the chock level to its max position) and started it immediately. The snow blower is new as its only 2 years old, and has only been used a 10-15 times. I understood that I just didn’t know how to start it the whole time and there was never anything wrong with it. I called them on Monday and tried to speak to owner about it and without connecting me to the owner the person who anwswered hung up on me. When I called back they hung up on me again.
Within the past week, I found 3 other families in our neighborhood who the owner of this store has cheated before and they are ready to inform BBB and write negative review on them as well.
1 The owner didn’t want to show me how to start the snow blower, even though it takes a 1 minute
2 The store never got my authorization to charge me
3 There was a lack of communication with the customer (me)
4 Rudeness
THIS PLACE IS PATHETIC. I dropped off my snow blower off on December 27, 2010 because the baron broke. I figured I would have it serviced while it was in there. It is now February 5, 2011 and I still do not have my snow blower back yet. I have called several times and their “waiting on a part.” The guy I talk to is very cocky and sarcastic. They have had the snow blower 6 weeks and its still not fixed? Waiting on a part? Are you kidding me? PATHETIC!!! I’m done with this place they suck. I tried to go to the local small guy to keep business within the town, but I should have just gone to one of the big guys (Sears, Lowe’s). I’ll never go to Canton Power Equipment again……they SUCK!!!
DON'T GO HERE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A FEMALE!.
Today I went specifically to purchase a Snapper Rear Engine Rider. I was the only customer when Employee showed me the Snapper RER that was out in the front. Just as I was asking questions, a 2nd customer comes in. I am left standing there so Employee can help customer #2 who is a male. It takes 5 mins. for Employee to argue with Customer #2 about an ordered part--Employee telling customer #2 that he didn't really order the part. I was not impressed with Employee's behavior, even if it wasn't at the cost of me being ignored. While that transaction is taking place, a 3rd customer walks in, another male. After Employee finished with customer #2, instead of coming back to me, he goes on to help customer #3, without a word or a nod of the head to me. Another 5 minutes of me just waiting and being ignored. Apparently, customer #3's $3.00 spark plug purchase was more important to Employee than selling a new Snapper RER to a FEMALE customer.
I said, "Wow, 1st customer in the store, and I am being completely ignored." Customer #3 replies, "Well, he wants real business." So I walked out and over to the car. While I am sitting in the car prepping the GPS, a SECOND Employee comes out to try and talk me into staying. WHERE WAS EMPLOYEE #2 TEN MINUTES AGO??
I refuse to be treated as if I am invisible. I am not rewarding a store with an almost $2000 purchase for acting as if my business is not important to them. They could've at least asked me if I minded waiting just one more minute while they took care of customer #3. They wanted $1659 for the mower, $60 more than another dealer in Holbrook, and I hadn't got to ask about a mulch kit and delivery yet. So they were already $60 higher than Holbrook, and $60 higher than the Snapper website.
A female customer in a lawn mower store just doesn't get equal treatment. At least not at Canton Power Equipment. i will NEVER go back there!
** Uncommonly Honest **. I have been a customer of C.O.P.E. for a number of years now, and, in so doing, I have always been met with great service and courtesy. Further, upon two occasions, I went seeking to buy equipment that the gentleman suggested that I avoid at all costs. In simple point of fact, he could have sold me the equipment and profited. However, he did not believe in the products and opted to offer me a suggestion based upon his many years of experience. In a world now rife with people trying to profiteer at the expense of others, Canton Outdoor Power Equipment is a refreshing change. They buck the trend. I will buy all my equipment here until that changes.
The Best Power Equipment service company in the Boston Area.
I have been purchasing all my power equipment from Canton Power Equipment for over 19 years. I rely on them to repair all my equipment as well. I find them to be extremely fair and often times more accomodating than I aspect any business to be. They offer free pick up and return of all my equipment as well as loaner equipment when I am really in a jam.
In response to the reviewer who could not return a part. You obviously do not purchase repair parts very often. It is a standard practice for these types of businesses to have a policy of "No Returns". Electrical or not, people install parts and later find out the part they replaced was not the problem to begin with. Multiply this problem by 50 customers a year and you will discover the reason for this policy.
It is troubling to find that some people with little to no underdstanding of something can write a review out of frustrations which were generated by being too cheap to simply bring their equipment in for proper repair by people who will fix it right the first time.
