What People Are Saying About Border Cafe

In Short – No one has ever confused the Border Cafe's sizzling fajita platters or overstuffed quesadillas with gourmet Mexican fare, but overall quality is good and portions are exceptionally large (rare is the table that orders an entree for each diner). After plowing through a basket of warm tortilla chips and fresh salsa, patrons select from the menu's lengthy listing of standard Tex-Mex (chicken enchiladas) and Cajun (spicy blackened swordfish) dishes.

My husband & I decided to have dinner at your new location late Saturday afternoon. We ordered the fajitta combo for two. First, the chicken & steak were completely stuck and burnt to the skillet which made it hard to scrape the meat off and the way our waitress explained the side dishes to us was totally confusing and we ended up getting two sides of black watered down cold beans. We were both very disappointed. The jambalaya was also cold. We were unable to find out waitress and when we did I told her I wanted to replace one or both of the beans with something else. She totally ignored us. All she seemed to care about was getting us out and waiting on the next table. I thought that was rather rude! We've eaten at The Border Cafe before and have always enjoyed the food but not this time. I said to my husband as we left, we won't be eating here anytime soon.

  • Pros: Delicious Margaritta

Best chicken quesadillas ever!!!!

by DirtyMartiniGirl at Citysearch

When I want Mexican, I go to Border. They have the most amazing chicken quesadillas I've ever had. They are big and stuffed. The entrees are very good too. I usually go with the enchiladas, tacos, or burros (yumm). They always give you salsa and chips when you sit down. And you must try the margaritas. They are fantastic!! In addition to the food, the atmosphere is very fun and lai d back. I highly recommend it!!

  • Pros: Food, margaritas
  • Cons: Nothing

Absolutely horrible meal

by dexydream at Citysearch

I went to Border Cafe tonite for a birthday celebration. What a mistake!! The service was very good, along with the margaritas. The food was absolutely horrible. I ordered a beef fajita and it came with enough onions on it to qualify for a migrant harvest. They then loaded a train load of hot spice on it, making it uneatable! I sent it back with quite a sour expression from the manager. I told her I was unaware that this fajita was going to be spiced as it didn't indicate it on the menu and I couldn't eat it. She took it back and not 5 minutes later brings out the filet mignon with a ton of totally raw onions on top of it. Nothing was cooked, so therefore, I went without a meal at this affair. I didn't nor couldn't do a take out bag as the food wasn't worth feeding to my dogs. The manager didn't even offer to comp the meal as I certainly didn't ask. The manager was a douchbag and didn't even give a hoot about customer relations or what people were forced to eat there. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. You want a real Mexican meal go to Jalapeno's in Gloucester. Never again. This place chupas!!!!! ahhhhhhh.

  • Pros: Good margaritas
  • Cons: food is horrible and management doesn't care about quality food.
