Walking into Sweet is like burrowing into a giant cupcake, which is appropriate since that's pretty much all they sell. Centrally located in the Back Bay just off Mass Avenue, Sweet is the perfect stop for a leisurely dessert or a quick treat. Ever since Carrie and Miranda dished over a coupla cupcakes on HBO, the confections have been the go-to baked good for the posh set. And posh Sweet is, from its immaculate pink-and-white interior to its gleaming pastry cases. The cupcakes themselves are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Each cake is topped with a sculptural dollop of icing,…

Disappointing

by Bostontransplant at Citysearch

I was disappointed with Sweet. I checked reviews in Boston for cupcakes for my friend's birthday and Sweet had mixed reviews. I decided to check it out and was thoroughly disappointed. The negative reviews were right. Namely, Sweet's red velvet is NOT red velvet. It was very bland. In fact, all of the cupcakes were bland (I tried 6 different ones). The cupcakes were small, dry (you would want them moist obviously) and expensive ($3 per cupcake). Honestly, I feel like I could have made better cupcakes from a box. Also, there was way too much frosting. The only thing I liked about my experience was the box that the cupcakes came in. Other than that, I would suggest trying another cupcake business like Party Favors in Coolidge Corner. They are bigger and better by far.

  • Pros: nice presentation, box is good
  • Cons: size, quality, price

Sweeter if you get 'em yourself

I love Sweet. Who doesn't love Sweet? You can't hate on delicious cupcakes. But I ran into some frustrations with delivery, and wanted to give you the info, Dear Reader, because knowing is half the battle.

Delivery info not on their website:

1. The dozen minimum for delivery applies to big cupcakes only. There's a 20 minimum for mini cupcakes.

2. They don't make filled cupcakes in mini form. I guess I should have realized this ahead of time, but not often working in the medium of cupcake I have no idea how easy/hard it is to fill a mini cupcake. (that's not about delivery, but good to know anyway.)

3. They deliver within a window of time. Like the cable guy.

To be fair, their business is not delivery, but cupcakes. I'll definitely order from Sweet again (my co-workers would have my head if I didn't) but I'll use RunMyErrand instead.

  • Pros: unique flavors, high quality ingredients
  • Cons: delivery is meh
